Those monsters were cool and hard to believe it is from plastic bags. I thought; however, this video was going to show us how to make one. None-the-less, this was very creative!

I have to say, that I prefer practical effects over CGI. Drawing by hand is one thing, but to physically create something by hand, for me, would be far more satisfying.

The beautiful thing about plastic bag monsters is they scale-up beautifully. The trick with a monster like that is to use air instead of liquid. See Billy Bryan's latest lesson (our newest on the site) for a discussion of how to make polymer membrane manipulates (plastic bag creatures) that can scale up nicely! - David

Imagine how sick it would be if they used these slimy plastic-bag effects in the next Venom movie or something!

In the full video, Billy said he once got the air filled tendril to flail around by ripping a small hole in the end, but that he couldn't replicate it. I was able to make one that does just that (not exactly sure how), I'm going to upload a horror short feature this type of design later this month.

I watched this hoping to figure out how they did the stomach explosion scene from species 2...I kinda got an idea but they never really went over it. I'd really appreciate more insight on that particular effect.

James, it's true though they touch on the basics, they don't explain or show the whole gag. That might be a good question for a future Monster Show, or web course with Billy or Steve. - David
