Hey Rob, What a super fun gift! A Great idea! Love the fabrics you chose :) For cutting, you can use a sharp blade to cut the back of the fabric ONLY (not the front furry Cuddle® part) or use a pair of very sharp scissors to just cut the back...and that will eliminate some of the 'Cuddle dust' as we call it. A few more tips: lengthen your stitch length a bit and use a stretch needle - that will help make the sewing go easier. And, remember, the Llama Cuddle® is washable too. Thanks for a great project!

Looks like I'll be making this throw very soon. I love how easy it is to put together. My great-granddaughter would love to have one for nap time. Just an update: I made one of these blankets with a blue bike print on the flannel and a soft cuddle type fabric for the back. I love how easy it was to make and my cats get all over it when I use it. Thank you so much for this idea. Now to make one for my great-granddaughter.

🎄 Short on time to make something special for my fam. I bumped into my Man Sewing tutorial to get some quick and easy ideas. Man Sewing doesn’t fail me. ❤️❤️ Headed to the store and purchased Woodland Buffalo Red Plaid and Faux Fur. I’ll sew first thing in the AM; then wrap my handmade gift and send it as soon as I finished so it gets under the Christmas Tree before Christmas Day. I am not going to panick...Rob Appell has my back. Thank you!!!

That looks simply luxurious Rob. I swore I would never make anything with cuddle fabric again though. I did a baby blanket with Jenny Doan's self binding minky blanket and that thing walked all over itself while I was sewing. I pinned and finally had to glue it together (bad mistake cuz that didn't wash out). However, that looks just like what I want to make my sister for a house warming/ Christmas gift. So guess I'll just have to eat my words on the never thing and attempt this. Thanks for the fun stuff you come up with Rob to keep us busy on new projects.

I love it! One hint, my son makes furry costumes for cosplay. He uses an exacto knife to cut the fur. He just cuts the fabric and not the fur, much less "Snow" flying around. Takes a minute to separate the fur though but less clean up.
@HWolfe7 жыл бұрын
Kathleen Goggins I love your sons idea/execution, but then one can't use their expensive cutting mat, even a self healing one right? So can and does he brace it with a big old piece of Styrofoam or lightweight wood?

Kathleen Goggins Well I kept thinking. ..lol...just turning it over and using the rotary cutter should still work...'cuse my slow brain,it is 428 a.m....lol
@KathleenGoggins7 жыл бұрын
He uses chalk or a sharpie to draw the pattern on the fabric. On a straight cut, he will use my ruler and the xacto, being careful not to cut thru the fur, just the fabric. As long as the blade is sharp not to much pressure is needed.

Super cuddly! Could you use a strip of the clear embroidery topper stabilizer to keep the fur away from the needle? (you iron it away) Or an iron on tear away stabilizer? Maybe apply before cutting to keep some of the floating fur down to a minimum? Just some thoughts. Great gift Rob!

I’m going to ask a question, could you have used an exacto knife and just cut the backing on the fur, and then pull the cut part away, leaving the fur intact? And then when sewing, you push the fur inward out of the sewing line, and it blends better with out a “cut” look.
@ManSewingVids7 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, Thank you for tuning in, and thank you for the suggestion about the exacto knife. You could definitely use it to cut the backing to save cutting through the long hair of the llama. Hope you enjoy making this throw!

Mine does that when it hits extra layers like when you're sewing two pieces together and go over a seam. It's OK, you may just want to slow down a pinch.

Hey Rob, I've got a question (or 2 for you)... I'm thinking of making a faux fur winter coat but not sure what to use between the faux fur and the possible flannel lining to keep me WARM. I get cold very easily and 90% of the off the rack coats won't work. Can you (or possibly your subscribers) suggest what I can buy and use to use to help keep body heat in and cold OUT?? Thanks much in advance!!

I love this blanket! But I have one question - what did you mean by saying, " This is not necessarily going to be a real washable project"? Do these particular fabrics not wash well?
@SnowWhite13527 жыл бұрын
Kathy Gorman I think he meant that it wouldn’t be washed as often as an article of clothing. Further down on the comments someone asked about pre washing the flannel to shrink it. He said this particular brand doesn’t have much shrinkage, so easing the whole thing is not a problem. Hope that helps.
@stephs4steph5986 жыл бұрын
Look on Shannon fabrics website it will give detail descriptions regarding each fur. Some do say “dry clean only”. That’s probably what he was referring to. I just noticed when I was reviewing the furs online.
@SnowWhite13527 жыл бұрын
Love this. How did you fold your fabrics. 2 yards long on the flannel and 1 1/2 yards on the fleece. Looks like the salvages match on the flannel, but how do you match the 60 wide to that? I’m a little confused.
@ManSewingVids7 жыл бұрын
Hello there! The Llama Cuddle was cut to match the width of the flannel. Does that help answer your question?
@SnowWhite13527 жыл бұрын
So the Flannel is 45 inches wide and the cuddle is 60 so we cut off15 inches of the cuddle and 18 inches of the flannel because we bought 2 yards of flannel and 1.5 yards of cuddle. Is that correct?
@ManSewingVids7 жыл бұрын
That is correct! Rob had enough cuddle left over to create a small fuzzy pillow. Hope you have fun creating this throw!

Rob: Big Al here From Washington State.I know this is off topic but my issue is with cutting blades. Is there a product that would sharpen and hone a cutting blade? I have tried two different products and both did not do the job. It is frustrating to keep throwing blades away when they could be sharpened and/or honed to an ideal sharpness. Thank you in advance.
@LM-gs6ts6 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob, couldn’t you leave the Llama Fleece about two to three inches bigger all the way around than the flannel - just for the sewing stage? And then, when you’ve sewn it all the way around, trim it down to match the size of the flannel - just before you turn it. That will save a lot of time since you won’t have to be quite so fixed on keeping the furry edge from getting caught up under your needle. Let me know what you think? Elle

It would make really hard to know where edge of other fabric is when sewing fur on top.

Thinking of making one of these for each of four of our grandchildren. I am concerned that the blanket will turn itself inside out, or something like that because it is not top stitched or sewn down in the middle. @robertalockaby60937 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. I don't understand the yardage. It sounds like you started with a piece of flannel that was 45x72 and a piece of 'fur' that was 60x54. Why would you have different lengths of the two fabrics if you are trimming off the extra width of the fur?
@winterzee7 жыл бұрын
Slightly shy of 45 x 60. The width of Cuddle goes along the length of the flannel.

@Btrotter014 жыл бұрын
Buyers be aware - faux fur can be EXPENSIVE!!!! Other prep work you should address: Trimming Faux Fur: ripping hard-back vs. cutting a soft-back... I work in a BIG chain fabric store where we snip just past the selvage of HARD-BACKED faux fur and then gently rip it to the other selvage. It does prevents ALL fuzzing. Supposedly this gives a straight-to-grain edge. However, the straight-to-grain is rarely the case. And, unfortunately, soft-backed faux fur won't allow method of cutting. In order to PREVENT having to use the stiletto, you can either: 1) tuck all the fur in when pinning/clipping the seams, or 2) trim the fur within ONLY the seam allowance. This makes sewing the seams MUCH easier and you have the benefit of the seams disappearing!! P.S. TAKE YOUR CONTACTS OUT IF YOU ARE CUTTING FAUX FUR. It does go EVERYWHERE; up yer nose, in your eyes and mouth, all over your clothing, floor and work surfaces. P.S.S. Flannel is RARELY straight-grained. You have to spend quite a bit of time truing it up!!! P.P.S.S Clean you machine any time you use faux fur. It will CLOG it up.
