Make a Soil Mix For Propagation

I show how I mix my soil that I use for propagation of plants, I use a screened commercial potting mix and sphagnum peat moss.

Last summer we had a privacy fence installed and it was up to us to clear away the dirt from the many post holes. I knew there would be a lot of clay, but there was also a good amount of great top soil mixed in. I made the same type of device (w 1/4 hardware cloth) and sifted the dirt to exclude the clay. It wasn't exactly fun, but it was very rewarding to have an amazing supply of great soil for my gardening projects. I enjoyed your video... Thanks for the upload!

We have cattle so we use tons of the dirt from the field’s and the natural fertilizer. We had some trees mulched and mix it as well. Any more tips on our process will be greatly appreciated.

It may be fine, it is just hard to say, what you are really looking for is the ability to hold moisture but still be able to drain at the same time, basically you don't want the soil to be saturated all the time.

That's a very good idea on screening that bag with all of those wood chips in it, I did something like this last fall. Good job! What about adding some more perlite to help drainage?

I like adding play sand. In my experience it really helps out with the root development. Give it a try and see if it works for you too.

you can add some perlite, there is already a small amount in it
