That entire scene looks amazing. You did a fantastic job (even compared to the many other things on your layout) I used realistic water about a year ago on my layout, and I'm still well pleased with how it came out and how it's held up.

The fact that Woodland Scenics realistic water dosen't dry is enough to make me find another solution, 2-part resin....Bro, you already had your color down, all you had to do was add the next layers in clear. They won't be that thick so you won't notice the layer thickness.....

Another option for water is gloss Modpodge medium. Matte Modpodge medium is also great for scenic work as an alternative to PVA. Can be diluted for fixing ground covers and ballast and is very flat. The tints can also be used for colouring rocks, creating tide marks etc around water scenes, can be diluted with water. Great vid and result 👍

Yes try matt Modpodge or matt acrylic medium, I now use it for most scenic gluing. I've used gloss medium for smaller water effects, but I've seen much larger areas done with it. All these products are acrylic and mix well with other acrylics.

That turned out really nice! I’m modeling a very similar project so definitely will copy it. One question; what is the piece of music around 11 minutes into the video? I Shazam it but didn’t come up and I really liked it. Thanks for the great video. You made it look really easy.

Great job with this project! I enjoyed seeing the different scenery steps. It is very inspirational. If I may be so bold to offer 2 bits of information. First, try using Scenic Cement along the creek bank. It seeps in better and won't give that "mushy" look. When pouring your water, pour in down a stirring stick to avoid most of the bubbles. Again, keep up the great work.

Absolutely fascinating to watch and learn from! Thank you! I've always enjoyed doing landscaping around my home. Never having gotten to the scenery stage on any of my layouts previously, but being on the verge of starting scenery on my current layout, after watching this video, I think I am really going to enjoy landscaping in 1/87th scale!

Not bad. It looks good. They say less is more. Maybe contrasting colors next time. I felt like some stuff blinded together. I heard and haven’t tried it. You can take Mod Poge glue and make ripping in your water if it ever does dry. Good job though.

It came out looking great, but you said it really never dries. So what about dust. Will dust stick to it after a few days, weeks etc.
@nscaler454
@nscaler454 2 ай бұрын
in my case, it is dry enough to touch with your finger so dust should not be an issue. Some Dust Off and/or a soft fan brush will likely be my choice cleaning method.

Very nice work. A delightful scene. I haven't tried the Realistic Water from Woodland Scenics, but I have had good results with their Deep Pour Murky Water kit (a two-part epoxy). Out of one kit I have poured a creek (for a shelf layout) two streams, and surfaced a lake and two ponds. Be careful to follow their directions EXACTLY. Dries pretty hard and has a nice sheen.

Thank you for taking the time for posting. I am in the process of researching for my first lay out. Lucky for me your video popped up. I want a canal scene in my layout. That's odd that it never fully hardens, I wonder if instead of having a barrier on the edge for all of eternity you can use some "paint" the edge with resin that does fully harden.
@nscaler454
@nscaler454 3 ай бұрын
I don't think paint would be a sufficient barrier to keep the resin from oozing out over time. Obviously the deeper the resin, the more issue it presents.

Thumbs Up..... just a small (not so small) note. Bubbles and Ripples can be fixed and made with air gun and yes a heat gun will get rid of bubbles quickly..... Even in N scale shredded tissue can be manipulated into wave, flow and white water features. Layers are the key to depth indication and manipulation of the colour will highlight both depth and flow direction of the water feature. I had not heard that the scenic water "never dried" most NZ and UK stuff does end up like Jelly with a mat like finish. Leaks are most certainly an issue... In OO scale the water feature costs are extremely high which is why some modellers use different products that do require mixing. Complete drying is a 10-14 day wait in the best of conditions. The important thing to remember is to scale your water. Wait at least a week before thinking about that final layer which should be the lightest.

I found this video to be very helpful. That's because after the initial hassles of deciding which underlying products would, and supposedly wouldn't, interact with the resin, the process still wasn't flawless. Instead of resin, I intend to fully examine all the methods of "painting" on color and texture I've seen from other modelers. It seems they've had almost none of the same considerations of product interaction restrictions like shown with this product. Again, thank you for the very informative video.

your eye for the fine details are most excellent ......looks great !!! I never used that Woodland Scenics liquid glue stuff ,too expensive and just a gimmick ( IMHO of course). You cannot go wrong with matte Mod Podge mixed 1 podge and 3 water with a wee few drops of dish soap (as the surfactant). The mixture dries flat and rock hard and plays nice with all paint and glues. All my ballast and ground cover ,static grass and water features are sealed and fixed with good old Podge.....it`s a real beauty way to go ! Keep up the great work ,your channel is one of the best out there and N scale is the bonus. Happy Canada Day . Paul T from the Prairie Hinterlands .

That resin culvert most likely warped because it wasn't fully cured. (with UV light) setting it in the sun is one way to do that. Should only take 5-10 mins tops.
@nscaler454
@nscaler454 3 ай бұрын
The culvert was UV cured weeks in advance, so it had plenty of time to fully cure. Because it was a water washable resin, I think the glue/water mix being saturated on it caused it to soften up.

I fully agree with everyone, your work is beautiful. But unfortunately I think you are going to be very disappointed with the Realistic Water. A friend of mine was ruined by dirt dust and his putting something on it and it sank in. That happened 2 years after pouring. On my layout I had lost my AC for a few months. It was a extremely hot time and my small river became a running river. Thats why I won't ever use it again and out at the museum/club will not use. I wish it hadn't been or there is something to add on top or with to harden it. Good luck with it
