Do you want to learn how to edit videos in slow motion like a pro? Look no further - this video will show you the basics of editing in slow motion with Davinci Resolve.
I also provide tips on turning regular speed clips into smooth slow motion shots! Plus, it's all explained in easy-to-follow steps so even beginners can get started!
Watch my full guide to DaVinci Resolve Optimization Here: • Make DaVinci Resolve R...
Hey, everyone! Today, I want to share a nifty trick with you on how to effortlessly transform your videos into smooth slow motion using DaVinci Resolve. So, let's dive right in!
First things first, I'm setting up a timeline. Right-click, create a new timeline, and for flexibility, I'm unticking the "use project settings." I'm adjusting the frame rate to 24 frames per second for that cinematic feel. Once the timeline is set, I'm importing my footage - three videos, to be precise.
Now, it's crucial to know the original frame rates of our videos. Quick detour to the media pool, toggle on frames per second (FPS), and there we have it - 120 fps, 60 fps, and 24 fps.
Let's get to the slow-motion magic! For the 120 fps video, I can simply hold down control and hit R to bring up the retime menu. I prefer dragging the percentage for a visual representation on the timeline. To hit that sweet 24 fps, I'm settling at 20%.
Now, for the 60 fps video, I'll use the percentage method again, this time aiming for 40%. Extend it on the timeline, and voila! Notice how the 60 fps slow-mo appears a bit faster due to fewer frames.
Lastly, the 24 fps video. Trying the 40% trick may result in a choppy look. Fear not! DaVinci Resolve's got our back. Select the clip, head to re-time and scaling in the inspector, and opt for Optical Flow. I usually go for enhanced better. Now, watch how it transforms into buttery smooth slow motion at 40%.
Remember, you might encounter a tad bit of artifacting, but it's a small price to pay for that realistic slow-motion effect. And guess what? This technique isn't just for making regular footage slow-mo - you can take existing slow-mo shots and crank up the slowness!
In a nutshell, always plan ahead for slow-motion shots by shooting at a higher frame rate than your timeline. Here are the percentage conversions for that flawless 24 fps slow motion. Now, armed with this knowledge, you can add that cinematic touch to your videos with ease. Happy editing! 🎥✨

Wish I knew just how many different videos I've watched to teach slow motion options. It's a LOT! Each one left me feeling like I'd have problems once I did it myself and didn't see the "set-up" for their examples. You showed the most basic of set-ups and what to expect for different preference, with an example of the difference in footage before and after. Great JOB!! Very professional .. Appreciate your creation and instruction technique. Just subscribed!!

@@BusiswaG im not saying it doesnt work.. im saying that its not as concise of a video like you claim it to be.. this video could have, and should have been no longer than 2 and a half minutes

Haha, I really appreciate that. I've noticed myself going 2x speed or skipping around with other channels and really didn't want to give that same experience to you guys.

"Got some nice slow motion of some eggs benedict" LMAO that made me laugh so hard 😅 Thanks for this! I shoot in 4k 60fps with my gopro and this is a really easy way for me to setup slow mo...I want to get some footage of my casting while fishing where it's normal speed, or even speed ramp, into showing the lures I'm casting in slow mo close to the camera...It will take some practice but I think I can get some cool shots doing this! :)

That is something I can add to my video list! In the mean time, you can right click on a sound effect you have on your timeline, and select "Change Clip Speed" there you should be able to slow it down by whatever percentage you want and click the "Pitch Correction" box if it sounds weird. Hope that helps!

Hi, when I reduce my 4k videos with SpeedWarp to approx. 25% slowmo, the rendering time increases from approx. 20s to over 5 min. Unfortunately I have not found a single test that compares the GPU's in relation to SpeedWarp and gives real output times. Does anyone knows of a current test ?

This first method works, but when I drag the footage, it reintroduces footage from the viewer window when I introduce start and end times. Right-clicking on it is unusable; I just end up with a box that times out. Is this because I am still a cheap skater and only using the free addition?

I think the fist step is not that. For real slow motion. If your project is 24fps, the 120fps clip you just have to change the clip attributes to 24fps em boom, and other superior fps, and adjust the speed velocity. Sometimes you will need to stabilize to get more softnnes
