just last weekend I was doing a performance at a techno club and it was the first time I was performing with the akai mini apc mk2. I only had 2 days to port part of my set to this new midi controller, luckily I already knew the problems with brightness and its solution using drum mode. However, I like to know about channel 10, I will try other channels, to see if I can access the blink mode of the status of the button. Yeah they are a little more difficult to access right now. I think you could use something like Bome midi translator to work using those channels, but I'm not 100% sure how well it works. I know resolume is looking into how to integrate this controller better, so hopefully some day there is an update that makes it simple to use all of the options.

I have a brightness issue but on my main output, for some reason I cant get my output to be that bright? I have tried everything changing the settings on the projector and main opacity and even advanced setting in resolume its just not as bright as my preview window 🤔

What projector are you using? Do you have the same issue if you plug in another computer monitor as an output instead of the projector?

If you map the Buttons you can Set the Chanel manual to Chanel 7 in resolume this is the Brightest setting 1 throug 7 are Intensity if you not using drum Mode if you go Chanel 8 and above the Button will blink in difrent speeds Normal midi map, in resolume its 1thru16 Chanel 0-10% Chanel 1-25% Chanel 2-50% Chanel 3-65% Chanel 4-75% Chanel 5-90% Chanel 6-100% Chanel 7-pulsing 1/16 Chanel 8-pulsing 1/8 Chanel 9-pulsing 1/4 Chanel 10-pulsing 1/2 Chanel 11-blink 1/24 Chanel 12-blink 1/16 Chanel 13-blink 1/8 Chanel 14-blink 1/4 Chanel 15-blink 1/2 Color mapping basics White -3 Red -5 Green-122 Blue -79 Cyan -36 Magenta -53 Yellow - 13 Orange -96 Took me aome time to get all this

The color is set by the velocity in the properties of each midi shortcut. When you assign a shortcut, the properties appear at the bottom of the screen, and you can change the velocity to change the color. I reference a color chart in the description so you can see what color each value is. Sometimes they dont light up until after you have closed the midi mapping screen and it updates.

Hey Sean, got a question for you: I'm running the APC Mini Mk2 with Resolume 7.19.2 and can't get any of the buttons to light up when I'm mapping it. I know you've explained it a few times in here when you're mapping you can change MIDI out Velocity but I've had no luck. Can you explain again step by step how I get these lights on? Thanks.

As of 7.17 this video is obsolete and it should just work properly with bright colors and color swatches in resolume. Right out of the box, and no need for Drum Mode. So, plug in the controller, and do not click the buttons for drum mode. Check your Arena>Preferences>Midi tab and make sure both Midi Input and Midi Output are checked for the APCMini MK2. You should be seeing color swatches under velocity when you are mapping. After closing the midi mapping mode, the colors you choose should be there.

If you look in the midi monitor, what do you see? You do still need to map the buttons after switching to drum mode and you can change the colors at that point. They should have a default value once mapped though.

HI, big fan of you i watch all of ur videos. just wanted a small help. I recently updated my Resolume Arena 7 (licensed) and after updation now there is some issue with the audio output. i changed settings in preferences=Audio to speakers and still no audio is going out even on my laptop speakers. can u pls help.

Interesting, I'm not sure, I have not seen that issue before. Check View>Show Audio Controls and make sure your Audio sliders are up. Also make sure your windows audio settings have the correct device selected and volume up. Also try restarting the computer just in case.

If you had mapped the controller before trying this, you will need to remap the controller since the buttons are sending different midi messages now. When you remap it and reset your colors, they will be brighter than before

Hey Sean, so Now for some reason the colors won’t turn on at all unless it’s in note mode. I started a new comp with a new midi mapp and tried to map it after pressing shift drum to get to channel ten. Lookin for help and appreciate it

There’s an app that comes with it that you use to program the controllers colors and stuff, from what I know you need to have that open for it to work properly. I don’t have one so I don’t know specifics but that’s what I’ve been told

Pls help, I got this controller and set it up correctly in ableton preferences, but there's no automatic mapping for me and any of the buttons will turn on. The controller works like any other and it allows me to midi map manually, but that's not the point of it is it? Pls help 😔

I do not use ableton unfortunately. Reach out to akai support or ableton support for help with that

That’s what I thought at first too. Might still be a solution using bome midi translator to access those other channel values but this is definitely easier

The problem is that the apc mini comes by default on channel 1, it would only be a matter of changing it to channel 6, where the brightness is at maximum but I don't know how to change the channels on this midi controller :( there are other controllers that let you change the channel that comes by default, if you find a solution let me know, while i use battery mode and work with it, i will also find a way to change the channels of the apc mini

Yes I wish it was easier to do. Drum mode is the solution for now. Resolume is working on an update that works better with the default settings so watch out for that soon

Yes, if your processor is capable of ouputting to that many pixels then you can use one processor, and if your computer can output to that many pixels, you can use one computer and one (or two or three) processors. That is what Advanced Output in resolume helps with, sending content to multiple screen sections with one computer.

Yo tuve un problema, ingreso en un modo sin haber tocado nada que parecía un modo de prueba. El primer fader controlaba los 64 botones en Rojo. El segundo fader controlaba los 64 botones en Verde. El tercer fader controlaba los 64 botones en Azul. RGB. Era un modo genial la verdad pero ni idea como ingresé en ese modo, y solo servía para eso. El problema fue cuando abrí mi programa para usarlo, NO ME ENCENDÍAN NINGUNO DE LOS 64 LEDS. Hasta hoy en día sigo con ese problema, preste mi control a un amigo. Le pasó lo mismo y creo que al bajar o subir los faders por completo ya no se enciende el color que controla ese fader, así que ahora solo me funciona el verde y azul. El rojo no me funciona, y ya entre en el modo Drum, Note y no encuentro el problema.

Incluso con chat GPT y sabiendo el manual de memoria. Y estoy 1000% seguro que el problema es de software y no Hardware porque los leds rojos, si funcionan. Thanks for the video - but colors are still to dark when using it open air on daylight and in bright rooms. Is the APC 40 much brighter than the APC. mini?

The sun is bright! Its hard to compete with it. Most midi controllers are a bit dim in full sunlight, but should be bright enough indoors or in shade. The APC40 may be a bit brighter but I think they are pretty similar after switching to Drum Mode on the mini.

using this trick with more recent versions of resolume is now obsolete. resolume made a profile for this controller and it is at full brightness in standard mode and has color swatches in midi mapping now.

I can't even get this thing to work at all with Live 11. The buttons don't light up at all except when I hit shift and the "note" button. If you hit shift, it sends note data to Ableton. Turn off tracking, and it stops doing that, but the APC's buttons still don't light up or respond when you create tracks and clips. Click remote, doesn't work. Click tracking, doesn't work. Click remote and tracking, still doesn't work. There's nothing in the manual and apparently nobody else has this problem since Google searches don't turn up any solutions. I give up. I'm just going to return it. What a waste of time.

Have you tried selecting it as a control surface in the midi preferences? Twirl the drop-down that says None above the section where track and remote are and pick APC Mini mk II?

Weird. I wish I could offer more help, but I am not super well-versed in using it with Abelton. I assumed it would be pretty plug and play since they are specifially made for ableton. Maybe AKAI support could have figured it out or offered a warranty replacement if its a hardware issue. But the launchpad is dope too! I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun with that
