You guys made $440 doing a couple cars in one day while I was literally a car photographer for Toyota taking 30-40 cars out and making $12 an hour every day, for two years, doing exactly what you did. Shooting cars for what they are. Just goes to show that there’s always a better opportunity out there. I reckon if I would’ve done what you did, walking into peoples shops, every day, I could’ve made so much more money for 85% less work. I encourage everyone else to double check what you do for a living for better options even if it’s in the same field. Of course my job was steady though, no way of knowing whether or not I would’ve gotten a gig on any given day. But still, $440 was basically my weekly pay check. Just something to think about. Good on you guys, keep it up.
@christiang88214 жыл бұрын
the difference is you were employed by toyota for photographing cars . wht he did is self-imploayed work . Self-imployed work can always reach unlimited numbers while beeing emploeyed by a company always gives you fixed salary, sometimes more sometimes less depending on how well you can market yourself.
@Drako_RS4 жыл бұрын
the thing is, doing what you did, you had a steady income, you will always get your pay no matter what. he needs to get clients because otherwise he won't get paid, its more risk but more reward, if he doesn't get a name or a bad name hes doomed. self-employement can make you more money but it comes with great risk

I've worked in a large car dealership recently and was partly in charge of the media output, and I can tell you that these things really need connections. A large dealership will need to have some sort of photographer already to put up cars online, and if they have a separate social network photographer, it's always either some employee who can kinda take photos (that's what I was) or someone that someone knows. If I were you I would have focused on small used car dealerships, cause they're often ran by a few very busy people who would honestly have more to do than take photos, often aren't too good at it, and can't justify making a full contract with a good photographer. Also those dealers are the most interested in boosting their image online, for their establishments aren't always the flashiest when visited.

Great video! I used to work for a company that does the internet ads and photos for car dealerships,(Just like the contractor one of the receptionists mentioned in your video)I was taking at least 1,500 photos a day and I had 5 dealerships in my route that I had to visit everyday. I had to photography every single car that needs photos including Honda civics and Kia Rios. Some smaller dealers have beat-up Saturn sedan that smells like feet..Dealers don't care about color grading or editing, they dont wanna pay for high quality work, they just wanna sell the cars. While I worked I just shot everything in Auto mode and low resolution and uploaded them by the end of the day. The company I worked for charged the dealers $5-$20 dollars a car depending on the numbers of photos and the "Photographers" got $1-$2 per CAR. I had to photograph more 60 cars a day to make a living. They also make you sign a non-compete agreement which limits your ability to find work on your own so basically you cant just quit and start doing photos and taking their customers. You have to wait 2 years or they will sue you.

Shooting cars requires you to constantly update inventory for a dealerships, take a set list of matching images for each car, etc. It’s not really a photography job it’s a car lot management/ website management job. Sounds glamorous but it’s realistically just a car dealership (lot porter) job. Also just a side note; but most dealerships would appreciate more of a wide angle lens for cars. Although it’s not “true to life” it makes the car look larger and roomier than it really is. (I ran the photos and web for 50+ ford and Mitsubishi stores here in the USA)

These "show how it's done" vids are awesome... great advice on learning to swallow rejection and keep moving forward. I would just say the "too easy" and "FAST MONEY" are a little over the top. Your lesson has value precisely because people find this persistence HARD. Your dedication and professionalism with quick turnaround isn't something others can just flip a switch and start doing... which isn't to give others an excuse for not stepping up, but to give you due props for your success!

You have made such a simple yet bold video. I love the fact that you got down to the basics and actually showed what it takes . A true eye opener for someone yearning to start but does not know how. Thank you so much once again. This is your first video that I have watched. Now that I have subscribed will learn more. Request if you could also make such videos for cafes and fine dine restaurants, clubs. Appreciate your hard work and wish you the very best. Cheers.

Love the pure aussieness. Over in the UK I saw a job add for a car photographer at a car dealership - asked what camera they would be suppling or if I had to supply my own (I have an A7IV), and the reply was oh we dont use a proper camera just a mobile phone. I was yeah what a waste of time. Great vidoes overall love the work!
