Thanks for this. Just as a note, when I make inner pod this way, the inner pod becomes stuck, almost impossible to separate from outer pod after use. So just use two complete pods. Wrap the foil(no press & seal) over the inner pod,and line up the grooves on the two pods. This works great! Less prep and WAY easier to separate and remove foil for next use.

Worked great! Apart from further reducing cost per cup, especially for a household with multiple coffee drinkers, I'm able to appreciate a greater variety of coffee options. Thank you very much for the meticulous demonstration videos.

Have you tried this with foil only (no press n seal)?

A fiskars circle cutter and aluminum foil alone works just fine. The Fiskars is an adjustable cutter and would probably work easier with heavy duty foil but it worked fine with common grade cheap aluminum foil.

What if you use the Glad Press n' Seal on both sides of the foil?
@f2ojohno5 жыл бұрын
Tried this using everything you said did exactly as you described and still getting separation from glad press and seal and the aluminum. and having the pod fill up and blast grounds through the machine i would suggest sticking with the pods that come with this machine as there is a huge difference in the coffee it makes and if your not interested in purchasing Nespresso coffee then it’s probably cheaper to use a regular Percolator as this will just destroy your Nespresso machine or cause you to have to run the clean function especially on the newer machines that require a mandatory Descaling.
@coffeeresearchlab50005 жыл бұрын
John, I'm sorry this isn't working for you. I've been doing it daily for over 3 years and it is working great for me. You are correct that if the seal is breaking and you are filling up your machine with grinds then certainly don't continue doing this.

I bought a plastic cap from this website my-cap.com around $10,and than I purchased to Ebay a pack of 350 coffee filters precut fit exactly for the nespresso pods, for less than $9. My wife and I are hooked since last year when I saw it on KZbin, worth the money.

I enjoy these hacks as I find them very helpful --- but I have an issue applying potentially cancer-causing plastics (Reynold's Wrap) to a pod which will be heated to such an extent that it will potentially release BPAs into the brew.

What about all the adhesive leaking in to the coffee after it's exposed to hot water ?
@coffeeresearchlab50006 жыл бұрын
Hi Mantas, great question! The only slight adhesive with this solution is on the Glad Press'n Seal and that side adheres to the foil rather than directly touching your coffee. Glad markets Press'n Seal as a food safe, microwave safe and BPA free product. It is FDA approved and, according to the FAQs ( www.glad.com/faq/ ) on their site, the ingredient used as an adhesive "is frequently found on fruit and vegetable labels". I'm comfortable with using (and recommending) Glad Press'n Seal but if you have concerns about it then my refill approach might not be right for you.

Have you done much math on the savings? Buying the grinds, foil, and gladnseal (not counting time).. obviously freedom pods are less, but any idea how less?
@coffeeresearchlab50006 жыл бұрын
Hi Cory, not counting your time the foils cost just 1 or 2 cents each to make. You get 25 to 30 servings out of a pound of coffee so if you buy $8 coffee it would be approx 32 cents plus your time per cup. That is just to give you an example. Additionally it gives you the freedom to explore coffee that isn't offered by Nespresso. Refilling won't be for everyone but it works well for me.
@zcvt052 жыл бұрын
How messy is it to get the used coffee cleaned out? One of the things I'm amazed at is the Nespresso and it's minimal use of water. Even a drip machine, you need to clean the thing all the time. The pods, just pitch them in a bag, send them back. No compost, no mess.

I did it exactly how you instructed in the video but my coffee makes a loud noise when brewing the capsule using this method. I’m guessing it’s when it’s spinning. Any suggestions?
@coffeeresearchlab50005 жыл бұрын
Jose, to make the video easier to produce I show using the foil sheets and comment that you really should be using the higher quality Reynolds wrap roll. I use the standard duty rather than heavy duty. I suspect that loudness means your weight is off while spinning (like a washing machine when unbalanced). Also, be sure you are backing it with the glad press-n-seal. Experiment with your materials a little bit and when you get those right then it shouldn't really be any louder than a normal pods. Good luck and let me know if you make progress.
@coffeeresearchlab50005 жыл бұрын
@Michael Kaye Are you using high quality foil? If not, try actual Reynolds foil because it does work better. It shouldn't be much (if any) louder than a Nespresso pod.

Can’t connect to the website. I see people complaining about the cost of the supplies saying it’s not worth it. I don’t really get it. It’s unbelievable the amount of money these pods cost. The supplies are super cheap and you could be using a lot better quality and fresher coffee. I assume this was a business idea that just never took off. If it ever picks up again and you get the website up I would be interested in purchasing some foils.
@coffeeresearchlab50005 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chad! I do have foils available so if you can send me a message on facebook then I will share the details. facebook.com/CoffeeResearchLab I wanted to share these methods since I used them daily and yes I figured it could be a side business idea. However, after launching it a close family member got a terminal diagnosis so this got put on the back burner. I do plan to get back to it in the very near future and will get the website back up and create more content.
