It still works for me, but the resolution is terrible. Looks like I'm in Minecraft or something. It's the same as when I plug the camera directly into a Google TV. I'm running the Logitech 930e, so it's capable of a lot better resolution.

@@DanTecson yeah same for me. I've tried two cameras, one of which was confirmed as giving good resolution for someone else, both terrible resolution, both mics don't work. Really disappointing. I hope Google sort this soon, why bother supporting Duo if you can't attach a camera.

I tried a few days ago and I tried several different webcams. The video is crappy and for some webcams the mic just didn't work. So, it's the problem of firmware? We have to wait for Google to update the firmware to get it work properly?

Ive been curious, did your camera have a built in mic on it or the Chromecast was using the mic in the remote because I can try to make a simple voice call without the camera and nobody can hear me, I was wondering and trying to search what mic does Chromecasts use for calls

It won’t use the mic in the remote. You can verify this by trying a voice call instead of a video call when your camera is not plugged in - still the other side won’t hear you

Oh geez...might be specific to the webcam you have then. Might not be recognized as an audio source for some reason.

There's a bug in the Android TV app. TVs and some boxes that run Android TV are experiencing the same issue. I have a phillips tv and logitech cam.... Same issue. Only other android TV device that works I believe is the nvidia shield

Just curious, what is the total wattage of your power supply? When using one rated at 12.5 watts to power my hub, webcam (1 watt required) and Chromecast, I am getting the low power supply warning. 😟

That's very odd. I'm actually not sure how to help. So many folks have been able to do this.... I've even had many calls with it. So...maybe it's the specific camera or the specific port you're using?

You say not to use the power cube that comes with the Chromecast. Is it because that at 7.5 watts output it's insufficient to power both Chromecast and a webcam? My USB webcam says its input requirement is 1 watt (5v x 200ma). I have USB power cube that supplies 12.5 watts. If the Chromecast requires a Max. Wattage of 7.5 watts, it would appear my 12.5 watt cube should provide enough power for the hub, Chromecast and webcam. Thoughts?

@@TechYourLife1 well, I ordered the Anker power hub, but it appears they sent me the newer model. Still, it had all the ports I needed. I am using a 12.5 watt power cube originally used to power a Raspberry Pi 3b+. I am getting the lower power error screen. Even after unplugging the webcam from the hub, I still get low power error screen. Thoughts?

Update; used a power cube that came with our Pixel 4a phones and it works great. We're good to go!

More updates...as others have reported, no audio from the webcam can be heard. This is a fairly new webcam, too!

I tried this set up with a Xiaovv webcam & it didn’t work. Wrote to Logitech but their tech support say none of their webcams work! Which is weird coz this video uses a Logitech cam. So I’m gonna try with a Rapoo C260.

Nothing is officially supported Jason. Try out your logitech if you got one, but a few should work.

With the hub? You may not have a power cube strong enough if you've attached a lot. Without the hub...better talk to Google support.

This is still working on my chromecast, but the audio is coming from my webcam speaker instead of TV audio through my receiver, any suggestions ? Other than using a webcam without speakers? I am using a emeet Jupiter AI webcam that follows me around as I move so really want to continue using that, but want the audio to come from my TV instead of webcam.

There are some weird things happening right now with this feature. It seems like Google's pushed some of the control of cameras/audio out of the Chromecast and it's messing with this whole feature. It's still working for many, so not sure about specific webcams just yet.

What audio receiver are you using, what's the audio setting on the chromecast w/GGtv, What type of Tv are you using. With my Chromecast w/GGtv, I use an OBSBOT cam connected to my TCL Roku Tv, which passes audio to my Onkyo Audio receiver, just that the mic on the camera isn't working. Just went ahead and did this, got a 2K webcam and while it works, the video quality is seriously delayed and pretty terrible. Duo on the Chromecast gives no video setting options, how do you fix this issue?

It might be a limitation with all the devices in the mix. Maybe try testing if your wifi is solid in the area next to the Chromecast with an app called wifiman

I replicated your setup exactly. Video comes in blurry on both ends. Seems from the comments that others are experiencing same. Have you found a better solution for video chat through the TV? Technology moves fast.... thanks!

Hi, thanks for the Video! Could you perhaps answer me the following question: I purchased the alternative Google power-adapter with ethernet port because I had massive problems getting my Chromecast to stay connected to my wifi. Since that is still the case, I am wondering if your setup would work with me pluggin the ethernet cable into the anker USB hub? Would that provide the Chromecast with an ethernet connection? With a PC it would obviously work, but does it do so with the Chromecast? Thanks in advance!

You *really* don't need a 48 watt charger for a Chromecast with an Anker dock. My i5 Lenovo laptop uses a 45w, so I'm sure a standard 18w USB-C charger will work just fine

Go for it Rob. You're likely fine, but I was connecting other stuff and I wasn't playing around with having a weak charger not provide the right Voltage. As soon as that happens...your device(s) are toast. But you're right, it's likely fine.

just tried this and just trying to make a call without video, no one can hear me. so i went ahead and bought the hub and a webcam i still run into the same issue and webcam would not work. i was using a 90w charger to make sure enough power was going through. i also went ahead and swapped out webcams with my logitech webcam and still no one can hear me or see me. i verified that the hub and webcam works by pluging it into my laptop. and after searching online it seems people are having the same issue. again i reinstate the issue, when making a simple voice call with nothing else attached to the google tv chromecast, no one can hear me and when pluging any webcam still no one can hear me and duo can find a camera. this does not work as of 3/2/2021.

I don't think I would describe mine as terrible. Could be just the location/quality of your WiFi around the Chromecast? TVs do tend to create interference.

This setup works fine for me (using an Anker Hub with Ethernet connection and a Logitech C930 webcam, also video resolution is great), but for one thing: I can only start Duo video calls through the remote. When I press the Google Assistent button on the remote and tell it to make a video call, it tells me it is not able to do calls yet... Through the remote, no problem. Anyone knows a solution for this (I need it to work through Assistent, not the remote, as the person whom I want to use it is paralized and cannot use her hands)? PS: The video preview on Duo looks terrible, blurry etc., but during calls video quality is fine.

I've been thinking about this for a day...not sure there's an easy way here Andre. Sorry. It's unofficial support right now with this, so there's not really a work around. You could try something like SwitchBot to press buttons in a sequence but unfortunately I think the app icon will move around and make that unusable. I might just suggest a big smart display in this case. Nest Hub Max.

​@@TechYourLife1 Thanks for getting back to me. Is it possible that the Chromecast's assistent supports just what the Chromecast natively would? Since the above setup adds video and microphone functionality via an external USB-C hub, it may be up to an app, to make use of them. Duo does, but assistent apparently doesn't. So unless there is a way for me to tell the Chromecast's assistent that it now has a webcam and a microphone to use, I'm out of luck. This would also explain why the Google Nest's assistent is only capable of doing Audio calls, even when I tell it to do a video call via the video-enabled Chromecast. Regarding your suggestion of using Nest Hub Max: If the above theory applies, then switching my Nest Mini for a Nest Hub Max should solve this issue, as the Nest Hub's assistent natively supports video caslls. The only question is, will I then also be able to tell it to send video calls to the Chromecast, which is connected to a large screen? This would then solve my problem, but I'd have to be sure this works because the Nest Hub Max doesn't come cheap. In fact I'm not even sure if it's available where I live. As for SwitchBot, thanks for the tip, I'll look into this.

I have bought the same hub and have 65 watts for power. Video comes through onto the tv and I can hear audio from the other person but no audio seems to be going through to the other person. Any idea why?
