Did you know that thread twist affected how you should thread your needle? I only figured it out a couple years ago! For more tips on hand sewing, check out this playlist kzbin.info/aero/PLNCcpUKH2nZTNsnpYrz3d_1_IlAlzpEwn

The thread twist information is really interesting, but I am a bit confused. If you turn an S upside down, it’s still an S, so it doesn’t feel like it should matter which end of the thread you use? I can imagine that one thread twist type might be better for left handers and the other for right handers, though? Please let me know if I’m misunderstanding something!

I just subscribed and rang the bell. Thank you for already responding to a comment I just made a short bit ago. I am on a bit of a Thimble and Plume marathon it is appearing I just can't wait to see what else I learn. I'm just so excited I can't hide it. 💖🤩

Wow, I had no idea about the Z vs S twist! Will definitely be mindful of that in the future

I don't understand exactly why it works, but I can tell you that it works. I have way less tangling when I pay attention to the direction of the thread.

I am 62, have dabbled in sewing my entire life.....and am not very good. I had no idea thread went in different directions. That explains why mine gets wrapped in a mess sometimes. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m definitely going to watch your previous videos and subscribe. 🙏🏼👍🏼❤️😬

You are so welcome! To be fair...I didn't even know it until a couple years ago and only because I chanced upon it when looking into something else

I started using nylon beading thread since I have a beading background & tend to sew with knits, so not historical but great for learning or if you don’t have access to silk.

Awesome tips! Very cool about the twist. I know of it from hand spinning wool with a drop spindle, but I had no idea it mattered for sewing. Thanks! Oh and I realized I got a tailor's thimble from you some months ago when I looked at your Etsy store.

Oh cool! I hope it worked out for you. I am looking further into the twist detail, because now, I think there is more to it than just the twist. But, its a struggle to find any additional info. If I do confirm my suspicions, I will update this video!

Great info...but I want to be clear this was aimed at "beginners" (correct?) since things like doubling (even quading) your needle with thread are standard Tailors practice for different applications... Great pointing out properly lay and threading direction...FIRST VIDEO...!!!!...I have ever seen someone do on that important topic...

It's meant for anyone who finds the information useful, no matter what level they may currently be. I know that I was quite far along in my sewing before I figured out some of these things, like using the correct thread! I hated hand sewing until a friend had me try good linen thread. Thank you! When I found that out, I found that I no longer struggled with my knotting. So, I had to share!

Tip: When threading the needle, take the NEEDLE to the thread. In other words, hold the thread and place the NEEDLE on top of the end of the thread. There’s no such thing as “threading the needle”. 😮

Crazy, right?!?! It never dawned on me until I was sewing with Malin and saw that she cut her thread first and then threaded it. That's what got me curious to research it.
