This video shows how I make these trees. I learned and modified my techniques from other youtubers. You can make a hundred or so for the price of buying 5-10 quality trees already made this size. That is what I found to be true. These are big and cover allot of surface area for dense woods. Link below

Thanks John for a great tutorial. Mostly I appreciate you didn't put in some (sometimes) horrible music. I make my trees almost the same way but never used this material you showed. I will surely try your method. Greetings and subscription from the Čech Republic 🇨🇿.

Furnace filter, didn't write that down. Went to the Dollar store but couldn't find it. Tried the back of a scouring pad. Looks the same but it is very tightly woven and impossible to separate.

No dollar store brands will work if they even have any. Walmart or hardware stores. I must be something you can tear.

Hello, I have been making trees for some time now for my small country layout. I use the same materials except the sawdust is a great idea I am looking forward to seeing how you color the sawdust. Some of the additional things that I use for making trees is a cardboard box opened on one end and I place the trees and material in the box at makes clean up a lot easier and keeps it contained. Also for spraying. I found one thing that works really good as opposed to hairspray is thin down Elmer's type wood glue and dip the tree once it's formed on the Dell in the glue and then shake the flocking foam onto it. Sometimes I will spray paint the underside of the tree foreshadowing. The first tree I ever made is still on my layout and the way that it turned out it looks like lightning struck the top of the tree because the trunk is exposed at the top and split. I work in a small 10 ft by 12 ft bedroom in my condo. So doing all this stuff and keep it contained in a box works very well. One other thing I do as far as when I plant the trees on the layout, all of my rock formations and mountains and Trackside Landscaping features are done with expanding foam that I found for under $4 that can at the local Walmart( I have seen the spray expanding foam for as high as $12 at The Big Box store). This is a good economical and creative way to make your own landscape features. My very first one was my train tunnel. Once I got the train tunnel put together I was able to carve it into all kinds of different rock formations in Cliffs and the such and then treated with the flocking and then add mountain climbers people camping a couple of cabins and a fire lookout. The fun thing about this hobby is yes it does take time to make certain things but then you get the satisfaction of being an artist! Thank you once again for putting out this instructional video. I will subscribe to your channel now.

Welcome aboard my channel Walter. I do have a video on coloring the sawdust. It works great but takes time. You have some good ideas. 10x12 room to me is a perfect size. Mine room is 8 by 19 and is limiting my layout types. I just tried something new a year and a half ago and it was to tight so I am redoing now. Just popped a hole in the wall and built a small but long staging yard in my lower family room. I have videos for that. Now I do not have to take trains on and off just turn on the tracks. Thanks

Wow. I have to say I really like the look on those pine trees. Im living in Sweden so I probably wont get my hands on those green filters.. but Im gonna look for similar stuff. The technique with thin round layers is really cool. It makes the tree look thick with branches, but dont look like they were solid foliage. Thanks for the inspiration! Subbed :)
