To me, traveling is not just getting on a plane to go take a photo in front of the Eiffel Tower or Pyramids or Tower of Pisa etc, it's about experiencing the inconceivably diverse planet on which we live. It's learning about different cultures and customs, tasting new foods, learning a new language, doing things you never thought you would (or even COULD) do. It's about opening your eyes to the immense world and bringing all these new and wonderful insights together to make a new and better you. "Travellers" and "tourists" are two very different things.
@justinr852610 жыл бұрын
Have you never considered that there's more than one way to find an interesting or useful experience? Have you ever gone to sleep after jumping into a vertical cave in Africa so that you could ride horseback in Egypt when you woke up? Ever switched from summer to winter four times in ten days? No? Limiting yourself to one specific type of traveling doesn't make you superior, it just means that you're limiting yourself. If you had the chance to travel the world in 10 days on someone else's budget and you said no, I'd call you crazy. Or in other words; enjoy, don't be a humbug. It costs you nothing but it's much more fun :)
@benschulte911710 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply, and yes, you're right, he had 10 days to go to all these countries and didn't have any time to fully appreciate what each place had to offer. My comment wasn't directed specifically to this video (because I realise he had very limited time), it was more towards the spirit of travel. Yes, it's fun to see different world sites (quite surreal in person after seeing photos all your life), but I still believe nothing compares to taking the time (if you have it) to embrace the culture in which the country you are visiting is home to. For example, one of my biggest pet peeves is when I go to places like Cambodia (somewhere exotic and foreign; customs completely different to our Western society) and the people I'm with go straight for the big juicy steak at an up-class restaurant. Why did you come on this trip if you're going to eat what you had for dinner last Wednesday night back home? Try the traditional food. If you don't like it, then by all means don't eat it, but give it a try. It's out of respect for me. They're opening their country up to you, the least you can do is get a taste (both literally and figuratively) of their ways. It's adventurous, potentially insightful, and hopefully will teach you to be a much more tolerant and mature person, and you'd be a fool to disagree with that statement. I'm sorry I came across as being a humbug. I'll be honest and say that that kind of offended me. There was nothing fake about what I said. I've travelled around the world and find it a total waste when people don't "do as the Romans do". I'm not saying that riding a camel under the Pyramids or holding your hands up against the Tower of Pisa shouldn't be considered traveling, I'm saying don't go on a sightseeing trip then brag about being travalled. THAT to me is the limiting form of travel we're discussing. You travel not just to see the world, but to experience it.
@benschulte911710 жыл бұрын
Apologies for such a long reply. Lol. I just had a lot to say.
@justinr852610 жыл бұрын
Ben Schulte To be completely honest, I agree with very nearly everything you said. Some people just want to check boxes on a list to say they've been there, done that. I think I have even seen an interview with Neistat where he said that this video was only reasonable because it was on a corporate budget, but he spent most of the trip on a plane and didn't like how little he got to experience of each country. I just thought your first comment was really misguided in the context of this video, it's not like he was dining in 5 star restaurants or anything. So I thought you were being snobbish, but I take it back, you're no humbug. :) don't worry about the long reply. It was a fine read.

All the shots and editing are done really well for 2012. I started watching him last year when he was in Romans Vlogs, and starting watching his own Vlogs. I'm in to technology and video work, and back then through 2010- 2013, there a lot a rare videos with good quality at the time in KZbin, even ahead of its time that I'm now just seeing like Casey's movies.

If someone is going to sponsor me to make them a movie to promote smth, I would also use the opportunity to travel around the world. Casey you're one lucky bastard.
@milosilic238 жыл бұрын
But that is the point :) A Lot of people get the budget to make commercials, but Casey used it in a way so he enjoyed it, and made a good damn commercial. The best one i've seen probably, really inspirational!

Way more in fact. Casey's youtube channel wasn't the only source for this vid.
@brannanidle70418 жыл бұрын
Actually, I feel that this is the *best possible* commercial for a slogan "Make it Count." What Casey did was unexpected, but *he made it count.* He didn't just walk on a treadmill in front of a green screen for their commercial. He made their money count, he made their time count, every single person who watched this, he made their time count. So next time look beyond the object of something: Casey spending Nike's money on a vacation, and focus on the meaning of something. I think you can figure that one out.
