I was surprised you turned the tools upside down because I would have thought the tendency to lift the tool would cause more chatter than pushing the tool down. I transformed the part off capability of my lathe by using a rear solid tool post and running the lathe in reverse. This pushes the tool down. However no doubting the fact it worked for you.

Yo Bunkey,,,,Did they fit? And he did not do them by hand anyway. Obviously used the BHC on his read[-out. What caught my eye was the completely unnecessary final vanity pass on the ID taper at the end.....Got to have that shinny finish and spend time on it even when it's somewhere where no one will ever see it. I know because I do it all the time

yah....that's one of the more interesting piston heads i've seen.....you're going to need some oversize rings....i don't think that joint for the connecting rod is going to work out very well but its worth a try

ciao :) - si esatto per rompere la vibrazione con il taglio interrotto ma in questo caso ha avuto poco effetto - rotazione inversa perchè ho girato sottosopra gli utensili per non vibrare - si, se rovesci gli utensili devi registrare l'altezza del tagliente

How do you keep the top slide from being loose if you don't have any gibb screws in it? I am asking cause no matter what I do to my top slide there are tight spots when I screw it in or out.

Take it off and make a solid block to attach the tool post to,,,,We only have the compounds on the lathes when it's absolutely necessary to use one like for threading or steep tapers. - The guys fought me at first and now they even do shallow threads without the compound. And it only takes a couple minutes to put it back and tale it off. = Think about it. Very few things you do that require the compound.

Bella forma di "parmigiano d'acciaio". Visto il peso, c'è anche una bella mazzata al motore che lo deve porre in rotazione partendo da fermo. A tal proposito, puoi cambiare rapporto di velocità in marcia oppure solo da fermo puoi impostare i rapporti di velocità?

I disagree with the theory that you reduce the vibration by reversing the rotation. In normal rotation the tool cutting forces are pushing solid onto solid. In reverse the forces are lifting the tool against gravity only, until the clearance of the gib is taken up. Only then is it hard to hard. The solid post is a much better vibration damper, in normal rotation!
