@chrisellingson1237 жыл бұрын
Very awesome as always! Two suggestions: Use a controller to automatically alternate the rotation direction for each cut to uncoil your plasma cutter lines. Suspend a longer section of the lead leaving the pulley as to allow the torsion to be distributed over a longer straight line.

Just watched this for the first time now... very good attention to detail in your builds, and great use of recycled items/parts. Most impressive is your purely mechanical approach to solving the problem. I think many other makers would not have attempted such a solution, or maybe would have "cheated" using CNC motors or purchased parts specific to the purpose. You even make sure the end result looks as nice as possible and number your builds. Very well done!

Brilliant! The only way I could imagine improving on it would be to change the cam follower action to stepper motor control (yeah, a whole lot more involved, true.) For the increased complication you'd get a cutter that can give perfect notches based on inputting pipe diameter as well as the ability to make ANY notch profile you want. But yeah, way more involved, but way more versatile too. All that being said, I would not take ANYTHING away from this design. Brilliant and bulletproof.

@NathanNostaw7 жыл бұрын
Very well designed machine. A lot of work, but what a time saver for pipe and tube fabrication. I missed how you compensate the oval cutting path when the tube is rotated at an angle. Are you just dragging the tip and allowing the arms to flex?
@guillaumedemonet3397 жыл бұрын
I wondered how they did that too :). Even caught myself imagining some Arduino controlled cutter head with simple ultrasound sensor and some Extreme motorized translation system :D Thinking more simply, leaving the head free with a soft magnet to keep it in contact to the pipe seems sufficient.
@MaxMakerChannel7 жыл бұрын
AKA Nathan An Arduino controlled one with angle and diameter adjustments would be amazing!
@burnerjack017 жыл бұрын
Better yet: rotate the pipe while the cutter moves back and forth driven by an arduino controlled steeper motor drive. "Done". (mic drop)
@siggyincr74477 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure he kept the axis parallel for this reason. I'm guessing he didn't think that part through before he built the angular adjustment and only later did he realize that it won't work with that setup.

work piece moving would eliminate cable twist BUT would present an entire new set of issues, like what if you're cutting 20' 24' or 40' pieces of iron. Your machine just got a lot larger. Id guess they went this route because the cable twist is easier to manage.

The curved removable pieces, the ones that make the cutter move up and down, are they universal? Or do you have to change them for different diameters?

I wonder if it would be a good (or bad) idea to use a twistable linkage like you get on a pushbike break line on the plasma cutter cable
@Robertlavigne17 жыл бұрын
You could add a limit switch that would stop it after a rotation and trigger it to counter rotate until it tripped the switch again. Simple and removes the need to babysit it and deal with the wire problems. I suppose it would also have to cut power to the cutter.
@MurrayTymms4 жыл бұрын
OMG, there are a few people on KZbin that just 'raise the bar' - you are definitely in that class, fantastic. Question: In the early part the motor appears to be a wiper motor (I think) and towards the end, there is a completely different motor. What is that one? Keep up the great work.

The guide for the notch you made is ok only for a specific diameter if pipes. The guide you'll need for smaller pipes will be not so immediate to build. A simple mechanism should be with a regulable manuvel_biel mechanism. Than you twisted horribly the cable of the pladma torch. You need a stop switch somewhere. Then as we have understood that a rebuild is needed this time, may be you should take in account also angulate joints. It should be not so difficult. As a suggestion: "the radial distance of your guide following roller, has to be also reguble" Nice try keep on! This is a game changer device. If you solve those issues you should make a kichstarter campain for this!

I dont understand how it works at 9:20 . When pipe is turned due to the axis of this machine , the path of cutting should be an eclipse, not circle any more. How the torch keeps distans to the material . can you cut it straight with 90 angle just like on a saw machine ?

All the people are asleep and dreaming! Nice hearing Puppy in a shop! I worked third shift and was alone in my tool-room so had my own CPU speaker set-up so I wouldn't have to listen to the same 7 country songs play every hour for 6 hours. Management would hear my rivet-head music when they came in, or my drum and bass, and they thought I was weird/fucked up in head/on drugs. Hell, I broke a wrench once and bumped into a sharp die with an artery, spraying the ceiling and room. Being the first aid guy, nobody else could clean it up. Management arrived before I got back from stitches, and thought I did a blood sacrifice!
