@@decadent.potato I did it. I stripped the seams of a shirt that no longer fit during the day on Saturday. Around 11pm I started the process of planning/pinning. Around 5am I finished. One gusseted shirt, complete with a taper from the beginning of the side to the pit-seam, then again from there, down the sleeve to the cuff. The cuffs were removed, dissected and extended (by 1"). The extension both matches and aligns with the gusset. Yes, the cuff extension was completely unnecessary, but It makes for easier rolling up of the sleeves with the added fabric. Because of this post, I was able to wear a dress shirt to Father's Day dinner the following day instead of slumming it in a hoodie. I'll be posting the shirt photos on Twitter. Thanks again for this fantastic video. 😎

Ladies! Thank you! I thought I was the only one who needed gussets for a comfy fit! I have had fun just adding agusset of the same color but in a pattern. I have even mixed two patterns of fabric in the same color. Confession - I've even done florasl gussel in a plaid shir - but exact colors - so cute!! Money saving and creative.

Excellent video! Thank you so, so much! I will practice on an old/raggedy t-shirt first, since I am not very good at sewing - yet! :) My son has 3 custom made t-shirt from special gigs, the dryer machine shrank them. We cannot find those anywhere else to order/buy. And they are black t-shirts, so - it will be a piece of cake getting it to match! Be well and cool ♥

I have a white and teal plaid flannel with a slight gray minty color but I accidentally ordered the wrong size and the store where I ordered it from I haven't gotten a response therefore I am looking into Making it bigger somehow and this video helped me alot the only thing is finding a similar material or even color.

How do you do this with a blue and white flannel?
@decadent.potato3 жыл бұрын
You could look for a similar flannel pattern or just find something in a similar colourway, blue or white. Or go crazy and do a contrasting flannel. And the rest should be the same steps. Goodluck!

You’re adorable & are an excellent teacher! 👍 I paused the video to sub your channel! 😊 I’ve got a broad back and shoulders, which means that I can NEVER find anything off-the-rack that fits me. 😢 Everything is either too tight in the back or too big everywhere, so now I can buy things that are a little too small for me, and insert gussets into them! Yay!
@decadent.potato4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! It is so frustrating when the store bought sizes just don't fit. So Im glad this trick will help you! You could do the opposite too, buy a bigger shirt and take it in where it is too big.
@MoPoppins4 жыл бұрын
@@decadent.potato True...I *could* buy bigger. I guess it’ll depend on which requires less work. I’m under 5’2”, so when I go larger, the sleeves are often too long, as well as the torso portion, so it’s almost like I’d be constructing a new garment. I’ve got/had multiple garments, though, where it looks cute and appears to fit perfectly, until I try to raise my arms or bring them forward-as in your vid, I felt like I was Hulking out...lol. I just need some extra room at the top...about 2” - 4” around my traps. I have a cute winter coat that I thrifted, and it’s perfect everywhere except the upper back. If I feel like I can gusset that area and do it well, I’d be SOOO THRILLED! It’d not only look good, but finally be comfy, as well. Here’s to a cute wardrobe FULL of thrifted finds that fit like a glove! 🧤

Where should I start? I even don’t know how to use the sewing machine
@decadent.potato2 жыл бұрын
Definitely start by learning your machine. There are lots of online resources, search for tutorials using your specific machine. If your machine has other stitches learn about them and test them out. Practice sewing common seam allowances, 1/2" and 5/8". This is a relatively simple project, but searching simple starter projects and try sewing something! Sewing is all about patients. I still make lots of mistakes, but with perseverance you can fix them and make something amazing. Goodluck!
