Eee gads! First my home would fill up with fruit flies instantly and the filthy things would be all over the fruit. Second, grapes don't just start to wrinkle up - they MOLD. You really need to use low heat from oven, dehydrator, or sunshine, not just hang out on your counter for most foods to dehydrate properly and not cause food poisoning. Blessings.

I live in S.C. fairly humid but an abundance of sun...Very simple....I made a frame of wood with food grade (rubber screen) in between the frames(I nailed them together). Put the screen on blocks to have air flow(on an outside table) draped mosquito netting around it..I dry everthing in garden. I know have a bigger frame. I blend my dry product to a powder. Put in air tight jars with a moisture packet glued to the lid. I make tomato past, tomato sauce, apple sauce, mushroom sauce. You name it. I also leave some slices whole for soup in a jar, just add meat...takes up so little room!! 💯🇺🇸👊✌️❤️🤍💙....Excuse my handle..I mostly rant on political sites..lol!!🤷♀️

Great video Miss Staci! I just got my first dehydrator as a Christmas gift and I love it. It cost about 95 dollars (plus 20 for a set of 3 paraflex sheets.) I must say that it's been a game changer for me. It's a little 4 tray Excalibur that I use to make raw veggie crackers. They're so crispy and light that is hard to believe they are raw. I turn it to 115 degrees and leave them overnight, then I flip them and put them back in for another hour or two. Next up will be a vitamix blender (fingers crossed) because my Ninja is too hard to clean. .....baby steps. ☺ ps. I still haven't invested in a juicer. I use the blender and nut milk bag method for my green juices. I have limited counter space.

Hi Cinnamon Girl! Thank you. That's just fine and fabulous! Yes, baby steps are wonderful. Whatever floats you're little boat. :) I know there are tons of raw meals you can do with a dehydrator. If you choose to use one, go right on ahead. :) It's a great stepping stone for most people. :)

@stiaininbeglan38442 жыл бұрын
@@bobby99261 typically, the lemon juice is what helps with that. The acidity of the lemon juice not only stops the fast oxidation but also fast bacteria growth. You could try water with a heavy salt content, but just remember that plain water enables bacterial growth and too much salt leaves your food inedible. It's worth a try. Remember to trust your nose. If something doesn't smell right, it probably isn't.

@missstaci52234 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Marcelo. :) Makes sense with the light. The fly situation....in Alaska you really don't have to worry about that. I never really have any problems with fruit flies living in Alaska because it's always so cold for most of the year. That's one of the benefits of living in a really cold climate. That's why I never cover the fruit. But definitely being in a warmer climate a fabric or cloth with be used for sure. :)

Here in southern CA, I'm trying my first attempt to air dry frozen mixed veg between 2 sheets of cheesecloth resting on a cooling rack inside a cookie sheet for air circulation. I sprinkled lightly with salt. The weather temps have been 101 above or below, so I placed the tray in on my covered patio. I'm hoping to buy a quality dehydrator someday but will try this first. Thank you so much for your video Staci ! Can't believe how clearly visible the drying effect is even after only one night. My gut told me for months there must be a natural way to dry any food so until today I did not get a dehydrator neither did I use an oven. Besides, I read somewhere that sun-drying degrades vitamins. Don't know if that is true or if the effect of it is neglectable.

How long would it take to harden the bananas for simple storage in jars? I worry about fruit flies, but because I live in a heavy snowbelt, I suppose I could wait until winter to do my fruits this way. What other fruits do you dry, and how do you store them afterwards? Blessings to you sweet gal!
@missstaci52234 жыл бұрын
Hi Pat A. :) Thank you so much for your lovely comment! You know, I don't really know. I just have always let them dry out until they are "doughnut soft." I think if you want them hard, you would need to dry them in a dehydrator or the oven. But, it's worth a try to experiment to see how long it takes to harden them though before they start going bad. Oh the fruit flies, I know in Alaska I never had to worry about fruit flies because of the cold and cool temperatures year round. Winter will probably be a better time of year to do it, but you could store them in in the fridge. They will still dry out in the fridge and it will help protect against those fruit flies. I dry out bananas, pears, apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, oranges/citrus, and grapes. I just store them on a plate and put it in the fridge with no covering. For the tomatoes and cucumbers I dry them out in the fridge. Just put slice them up and place on a plate and let air dry in the fridge. :) Hopefully that helps you out a little Pat A. Comments, questions, and opinions are always welcome on my social media pages. :) You have yourself a good day today! :)

Hi Panda Princess. Cool! I do not have any issues with molding when drying fruits naturally. I think the environments that we live in play a big role with that. Up here in Alaska it's cold and extremely dry all the time. There's no moisture in the air. Hi Patricia. I do not get fruit flies when I leave the fruit out to dry. The reason why is because I live in Alaska. Hi erumfatima 1000. Totally understandable. This technique is just a simple way to dry a few different types of fruits if you're someone who doesn't want to invest in a dehydrator. It's not a method to do all kinds of produce. But it is a workable method for some types of fruits. Just thought I would share it if someone wanted to try it out. Just having some fun experimenting and it worked. If you're someone who wants to do serious dehydrating, then of course you would go for the dehydrator for your needs. Hope you have a great day today! :)

Freeze-dried foods of fruits and vegetables made by natural cultivation have already been completed. It can be easily returned to the original state with water, and the taste and mouthfeel are restored to the original state. Those dried fruits and dried vegetables whose cells have not been destroyed can be stored for a long period of two to three years, and are expected to save the future of food shortages. 🥒 🥝

I am Japanese. My previous comment was on freeze dried foods from Japan's Japonic brand. A common method for making dried fruits is to heat them in a microwave oven and gradually dry them while absorbing moisture with kitchen paper, or to dry them indoors or use an oven toaster. Once you've made dried fruit by any method, use Mill grinder and powder it. By the way, due to the effects of pesticide residues, commercially available fruits and vegetables will rot and melt, but fruits and vegetables grown by wild and natural methods will wither and harden. Good luck. 🍌 🍆 🏋

@missstaci52234 жыл бұрын
For me, I tend to eat everything when it's ready. :) But, you can store them in a regular container with a lid and just put it in the fridge. I usually just make enough that lasts one or two days. It's a fun and much cheaper way of dehydrating, but if someone wants to do mass quantities and wants truly dehydrated fruits, then they would want to use an actual dehydrator. This is a good method to at least try out. It may take longer, but it's fun and interesting to do. :) Hope that helps Chocolate Vegan Girl. Thanks so much for your comments.
