Yes by grinding with a lvl 1 or lvl 2 pickaxe until you reach lvl 3 skill you will get a free pickaxe from the server. But it would take you a very long time.

With a lvl 3 pickaxe you will be able to get rubys and diamonds which you cannot get from level 1 or 2. You get a free level 3 pickaxe when you reach lvl 3 potter but it is not recommended as it would take forever. You buy a pick and then when you get yours sell it
