I was also surprised at the beginning of this year when I found out how big is this niche, selling digital files on Etsy! :) Your method of selling these comic designs are great, especially as once you make the designs after it will make you money on autopilot! However, I found a way that allows me to be proactive, find and contact potential customers even outside of Etsy and make them interested to buy my digital products. It was more halfway between freelancing and selling pre-edited downloads, as I needed to customize my templates for each client, but it also allowed me to charge higher rates. Personally, I did it in a slightly different niche, and sold channel branding kits for KZbinrs (animated intro, end screens, banners, etc), but the same method would work well in your niche too, imagine, if you would sell these comics scenes with the face of your clients! There are some basic and free mobile apps available that turns any photo into a drawing, so the job can be done in minutes! :) I just tried this "selling digital files on Etsy" as a side-hustle, and I was surprised how well it went, actually, this was the first time when I could make money online! :)

You're high-key amazing! I just found your channel earlier and watched like three hours of your videos in one sitting. I always wanted to sell on Etsy, but was scared about dealing with shipping, and everything that can go wrong with that. So, it's great to know that I can create digital content to sell on there and not even have to worry about shipping.

Very cool. I'm guessing for templates you would have to make sure the fonts are free and would just provide links to said fonts.
@craftystax Жыл бұрын
Yes - there are public domain fonts as well that you can just bundle right inside the zip file too.

I remember you saying how annoyed you were, seeing licenced, copyright infringing designs available. I really don't want to sell on Etsy, purely for the reason that I have to pay to list EACH item, whether I make a sale or not. BTW, I made my first sale last week!!! I sold some stickers; I was so chuffed with my first sale.

I cut a couple of things out of a comic last night and it works on small things but not shirts because the jpeg of the original comic is only like 1500 1000. I did try making it a vector but it really came out messed up. But putting them together and make a pattern I think will work.

Hi there. I know American comics are really a thing and right now, that is going downhill at the moment, but anime is in. Well...usually people still make established characters that people want and people still sell those that they made, but companies usually turn a blind eye to that and think, "Hey! Free advertising as long as they aren't making a whole lot of money." I was wondering if there is a good site that has public domain anime or manga. I know their laws are stricter overseas than here, but I'd like to attract part of my audience to my future store based on that niche to something like that. I think Japanese art would do, but I would like something a little more...modern-ish as far as media is concerned besides making something up.
@craftystax2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question and I agree, some creators (especially independent creators) have said publicly "go ahead and make fan art, I love it" and there is zero chance of getting a trademark strike. I am not aware of any public domain anime (only because it is not old enough yet to have passed into the public domain). So what I would suggest is looking around online (like Redbubble or Etsy) to see if there is anime that is obviously well known, and then see if there is any evidence that the creator says go for it. (Sometimes this is in Reddit threads or news articles). That's the best I can offer, it's not perfect - but I love your thinking!

There's a neat character called Voodah who first appeared in Crown Comics #3 (like a Tarzan-like character): comicbookplus.com/?dlid=6035

How can you be sure all comics on this website are copyright free and for commercial use?
@craftystax3 жыл бұрын
The people who run the website are pretty strict about what gets uploaded. Not every issue of every run for example is uploaded because there is occasionally some legal reason that the occasional issue is not 100% public domain so they leave it out. I can definitely vouch for this site. You can also look at the date of the comics (1st page, at the bottom) and typically these are very old comics by defunct companies.

@@craftystax thanks for the answer! But there are comics like "barbie & ken" these are clearly copyrighted, what about them?
