This is a tutorial showing you how to make a large sheet of paper. We make one that is almost three feet wide. We make our paper for a fantasy world wall map but the sky is the limit on what you make your paper for.
We recycle paper bags to make this project and you just need a few basic supplies like a window screen, a blender and a clothes iron.

I have been thinking of using a similar process to recycle paper for a completely different purpose: to use as a solid strata for a paint/paper product to use some products that usually go into the trash or cannot go into the trash as part of a hopefully upcoming huge project to make a trash recycling barge (this idea would be the decking in my mind)

THANK YOU!!! My sons and I did this and although the results were... Meh... (It didn't dry completely, so half of it kind of melted off the plywood we were using as a base into a kind of gooey ball and I destroyed my iron when a piece melted to it, but it was worth it. I suggest letting it air dry for an hour or two before using the iron.) Nevertheless, we had a GREAT time It made the perfect pirate treasure map for their room. I cannot wait to see the next project.

I made a huge paper scroll last nights using this video. I used a screen door. I am wanting to make a very large scroll, 2x6 feet. My paper is mostly dry now, but it feels to stiff to roll?? Is there a way to make it softer?? Any suggestions? Thank you!

Michael Booher Yes, But, the canvas may need some extra work to break it down. Possibly even chemicals.

I do have a question if you might be able to answer, I paint with coffee and I have been really wanting to create a large sheet of paper just like this do be able to my paintings on. Once this is dried, would this hold up painting it with gesso to make a canvas for coffee paint? Coffee paint is different but very similar to watercolor painting just for reference.

It takes some skill and practice to make paper that is durable. This will hold up but if you are going to make paper like this practice on smaller swatches first to get the feel for paper making. I ended up making the fantasy map out of this paper. Used latex paint. that video is around here somewhere.

Jolly Joel Hmm... not sure. There is glue in cardboard. It holds the layers together. So, it will affect the paper. Good question though and worth trying.

epicfantasy I'm really curious about this. 1. You think there's a glue you could add to the mulch to make it tougher? 2. What about making it thicker but still press it as flat as a stiff board, but let it mostly air dry. Would that still hold together? I have a million cardboard boxes and I feel like I'm throwing away an oppurtunity

Jolly Joel I think the glue will change the paper, make it not so much like paper. More like cardboard! But, only way to find out is to try it! About the drying, yes absolutely. You can press it flat and let it mostly air dry. That is a good technique. It will hold together because you pressed it first.
