I have been using jars to store food for a while. I clean all of fruit and veggies before I put them in the jar. I then add a paper towel to the jar to help absorb moisture. With everything ready to eat stored in the jars I use it and it makes meals so much klquicker to make.

The green onions can live on the counter in the jar with a little bit of water. They keep growing as you trim them.

Mason jar stock should be going up, I've bought so many jars lately after watching you. Ive been putting my peppers, strawberries, and grapes, also pantry drygoods in jars for several weeks, now you've convenienced me to store my herbs and veggies. I know the point is to save our products which will save us money, but I'm loving how neat and tidy it makes everything look and no more gunk in my refrig drawers from produce going bad. Thank you for your tips and tricks.

I have been on a jar frenzy since you started your jar journey! Your sliced peppers in the beginning sold me! I’m glad I’m not the only one with 3 week old blueberries in the fridge! I have had success with apples in a jar, but I found a product by Ball called Fruit Fresh (its by the jars) and our sliced apples last at least a week in a jar that way! Maybe longer, but my girls devour them!

Hi! If you take your sliced apples and dip them in water with a bit of lemonjuice in they will stay fresh and not brown for long. I think that is more healthy than "Fruit fresh", if you read the ingredience list on that.

Buy ground dried rosemary. I personally don't like eating evergreen leaves; they have the texture of sticks. And I once had to take my 7yr-old to the ER to have a doctor take tweezers to pluck a piece of dried rosemary out of my son's esophagus that got caught while eating a slice of pizza. Seriously. But dried ground rosemary is a fine powder with a whole lot of enduring flavor. And I like rubbing it into poultry or blending it into biscuit dough before placing into an oven. And it's wonderful mixed into from-scratch or instant mashed potatoes. Buy ground dried rosemary. Broccoli/Cauliflower: make creamed soups. Cut, rinse, cook in the microwave until softish (the MW steams it just from the rinsewater left on them). Throw into the blender still hot, cover with veg/chicken stock/broth. Puree. Add OPTIONAL butter/cream/milk if you like. Add salt, pepper, and/or spices as you prefer. Now it's ready to eat. YUM! Broccoli and cauliflower don't last in my house, and I live alone. I have these unused thermos-style drinking cups (sports bottles) that I was going to donate at the thrift store, but now I use them to hold my green onions and tall fresh herbs; they're the perfect size for storing in the fridge door, where they remind me to change out the water every day or two. No tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes lose texture and flavor when refrigerated; leave them on the counter. Only refrigerate them if they are cooked or canned or dried or stored in oil. Note on reusing jars: Mason jars are special-made to handle changes in temperature. Most commercial jars are thinner and/or weaker glass and DON'T handle temperature changes well. DO NOT USE THEM for microwaving, heating in water, or freezing, because you are chancing them breaking. The only food company that uses actual mason jars (and a specifically robust version of mason jars) are Classico, makers of pasta sauces and pizza sauce. Non-Mason jars are fine for simple countertop and fridge storage, but NOT for temperature extremes. Store safely!

Hello Mrs. Megan, I lucked up on your video today and noticed I have the same issue wasting fruits and veggies from taking too long to eat them. I've only been putting my rice and flour in jars and I put my lettuce & spinach in a freezer bag with paper towels at the bottom to absorb any moisture. But before I close the bag I smash all the air out of the bag then I seal it close. It really works, I t preserves my leafy veggies & fruits for a long time. But I never thought about using jars for my fruit & veggies, that'll look really neat and would be easier for the kids to take out and close it back. Even though, it would take up alot of room in my refrigerator. So what do you do with bags of onions, because I slice & dice them then store them in freezer bags then freeze. The bulb last in the refrigerator for a while until they start to grow sprouts. Do you have a better remedy? Also what is your remedy for potatoes? They tend to go bad to after sitting out. I have tried boiling, mashing, and then freezing them also to keep from those going bad. Then I pull the bag out later and make mashed potatoes, but I don't want mashed potatoes all the time. What do you do with potatoes? Should I not buy until I'm ready to eat them? That's for your ideas and sorry for such a long text.

I tend to keep my Romaine in the bag that it comes in. It has holes in it. It seems to stay well. Several people have suggested wrapping it in aluminum foil - That seems to help them. I’ve also put it in a plastic bag with paper towels. Once it’s been washed, it doesn’t last very long. I typically only do this to unwashed lettuce.

Hi Meghan! I do something different with some of my food items. Spring onions like you do, it works for sellery stalks and asparagus to. I put them in a jar a mug or a vase with a tiny amount of water in the bottom, but with no lid on. Herbs I do the same with I just have a little more water in the container. This makes my fridge smell soooo nice. For cut up salad, spinage, kale, arugula etc, those often come in a bag or clam shell that is not good for presrving. I have better plasticbags, thick ones with zip lock and I put the salad in them and ad a paper napkin (to soak up moist). I shake and turn the bags every day and the salad stays fresh and lasts a looooong time. Halfed tomatos I put with cut side down in a small bowl if I know I am going to use it the day after. It works with two days to tho we use tomatos every day so....

Oh how I wish I didn’t declutter my jars 🫙. I had some to make kefir which didn’t work out because I couldn’t drink enough of it fast enough and nor did the family. I have to save my empty food jars like another person commented to start . Maybe visit a thrift store. I wanted to say I know you don’t but juice but I discovered from another KZbinr that pour or soak some apple juice on your slice apples and it preserves them from turning brown. It does work I tried it.

@@apriltahe You could ask around, perhaps some familymembers, friends, neigbours or coworkers have jars laying around that you could use.

I have walnuts in a jar as we speak. Also, I have pumpkin seeds and pistachios. Jar work so well for nuts. Btw: I don’t put them in the fridge… just the pantry 😊

If you take the white end ( root end) of the green onions after you use them and put them in water, they will regrow and you wont need to buy them again.

I found these nice glass jars at dollar twenty five tree. I don't know if I can use them because the lid looks metal, but I think it's plastic. Anyone know?

Tomatoes should not be refrigerated. They last much longer on counter. A cut tomato does go in fridge so a jar may extend quality.
