What if you started weekly coding challenges for beginners and show some of the better end projects in a weekly video? It could be a win-win situation. It's extra content for your channel (with a potentially a high engagement rate), and it's fun way for your audience to learn. Plus, if you set the deadlines for the projects, not only are those deadlines more realistic but, quite importantly, they can't be postponed when we slack off and fall behind. 😀
@Hardyt3kyoyo5 жыл бұрын
The problem I've ahd, and I'd love your feedback on this, is that failing to meet the deadline doesn't meet anything. It's much easier with school or work because there ARE consequences to not meeting deadlines that are given to you. But if I don't meet my own deadline, nothing happens. There is no pressure because I know I can just move it back at any time.

When I first started working on portfolio projects I made the mistake of picking things that were over my head instead of highlighting the basics. If I could start over I'd do several smaller projects that show i have the fundamentals on lock.

This is great!! Advice is fantastic and super appreciated. As someone with the goal of learning code I have been struggling to balance work as a junior doctor and a new father. With limited time my inefficiencies and time wasting is killing my progress. Your videos are not just helpful but really motivating.

Hi ! Im currently learning SQL, since two months ago, and i really feel i've learning so much, so i want to make some personal project to implement what i've learn, but i really don't know where to start. It would be awesome if you can do a video talking about how to pick a project, or something to take what begginers have learn, into the next level, to practice and stuff. Thank you so much !

Re-instituting deadline, Andy. Had defined deadlines but made mistake you pointed out of going into too much depth on projects instead of moving on. Future Bid Topics: 1) “Playing Compare Game” (ie. others’ progress vs one’s own), 2)Traits of Craftsperson-Level Programmer ( ie. patience, curiosity...Character Traits of Mediocre Programmers vs Next Level, 3) Working Language- specific Meet-Ups ad local conferences to showcase skills, to learn new things, and to meet like-minded peers. Thanks, Andy... another insightful video.

Andy, almost 110K subscribers, dude, you're rocking. As for the video, again, I fully agree with the psychological importance of a deadline, and the benefits of adhering to it, as usual, the advice is from the heart and it shows, keep up the great work.

I blame Javascript. I think it's the most complicated and clusterf&%$d ecosystem to build software and it's being pushed as something ''great' and beginner friendly. It's a long uphill climb to get to the JS sweetspot. frameworks, dependencies, node, npm , ES6-7-8, Babel..etc.

Ci Boz almost nobody writes software in a low level language.
@jscorpio19875 жыл бұрын
Ci Boz Actually, C is a high level language as well. It gets compiled to machine code, but the C language itself is a high level programming language. Source: The C Programming Language, by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie It’s also still one of the most commonly used programming languages. Almost every modern major programming language is written in C.
@jscorpio19875 жыл бұрын
Ci Boz Yeah. It’s like a portable high level version of assembly language. You can write pretty much anything in C.
