as a christian,never hide behind scriptures...do what the scripture says. read the whole book or rather chapter of that 1 samuel and understand why the scripture was said.. 1 Cor says the hair is the glory of a woman,it was given to her for her covering. so there could be nothing wrong choosing short har but always better to obey than sacrifice, just a clear advice.
