Looks very cool but is devoid of instruction. We get the initial dire tions over material size then a lot of cryptic sewing machine shots. It would be helpful to have more instructions down in the description.

I wanted to like this video. I am inspired by this video. I would love to make one of these. But having watched it a half a dozen times now I do not feel equipped to as the title procliams "Make this" Other than the measurements of the initial cuts there is no instruction or even discussion of the construction methodology, pattern, or pattern drafting. and the footage of the process with like colored fabric on like colored fabric and matching thread color makes the footage of the construction difficult to follow. Near as I can tell the process is this: 1. Cut 1x 15"x60" piece and 3x 15"x15" pieces 2. Select a matching thread. 3. Cut a 6" Triangle off of two of the corners of one of the 15x15 pieces 4. Edge bind the edge left after cutting off those triangles with double fold bias tape. 5. ??? Several more difficult to follow steps. 8. Finished hood. I love the finished product. Would love to make one for myself. I have not been equipped to do that by this video, and am frustrated about that.

This is perfect to pair with a loose fitting impermeable pair of lederhosen and then gaiters over the boots. What this allows is for air to move freely around the legs and torso while shedding water. The hood then laps over the lederhosen, but allows planty of air exchange, keeping heat and perspiration from building up, while shedding 100% of water.

My experience with wearing rain gear tops and no bottoms is that the top gathers the water and puts it on your lower clothing. It's a path to hypothermia when your pants are soaked.
@MakersMovementDIY3 жыл бұрын
This is more of a supplement in sketchy weather, not a one size fits all solution. It is great for snow sports, fishing, and limited exposure to inclimate weather or intermittent exposure.

Is this called something specific? I find umbrellas to cumbersome and overly vulnerable to wind. Frequently a poncho is too large and difficult to get dry. A light waterproof version of this would be nice. I've tried looking up half cape, or half cloak/poncho. Unfortunately I'm not a sewer. Annoying how there is nothing to fulfill this space between full jacket and normal clothes for brief stints in the rain and wind. I see in medieval times they had this, but now it's only a novelty unless you can make it yourself.

Thanks for stopping by. It was just a guess, I folded it over until I thought it was enough, then stitched it on the fold and cut the remainder off.

How much did that end up weighing, brother? If it's even close to the weight of my rain jacket, I might ditch it for one. Good shots of Bjorn too. Stay well up there. S/F

@@MakersMovementDIY Is the waxed canvas expensive? :)
@MakersMovementDIY3 жыл бұрын
@@KoalityofLife it can be, anywhere from. 20 to 35 bucks a yard. One yard will make one hood with bag if the bolt is 60" which I think is pretty standard. Thinking of doing a video this summer on how to make a tin cloth the old fashioned way.
