Excellent excellent video! There’s not enough out there discussing design, only technique. Design tends to be shown not discussed. A huge thanks for talking about this and getting me to think about woodworking a little differently!

That's what I've been finding too! You can find a million video on how to cut a dovetail, but so few on the decisions as to why you would want to. I'm planning to do alot more videos like this as I try to experiment more with my own design style. Very good technical, design information. I'll store that one. And good presentation too. Check your email for a simple mortise and tenon jig. I cut tenons with a jap saw and they fit perfectly straight from the saw. It's the jig, not me.

I like using steps, but I don't like having every element be at a different step.

It definitely depends on the project, some need a little extra detail others look better with some flush sections.
