Hello, I like your videos and I wish some day you can work on a gas club car president with a subaru engine so j can learn how to fix mine. I have a 2017 gas club cart that only goes top speed. I can't ease off my foot of the accelerator, if I do, the cart will stop. I don't know what's wrong or what parts are causing this. Please help me fix this problem. Small issue, not entirely sure what model we have, newer precedent, when i floor it for around 4-5 seconds it will putter and lose rpms, what could be the problem?

If you leave the throttle floored what happens? Does it Rev back up again and then lose rpms? Or are you flooring it, you're getting up to full speed and then it drops rpms? How much speed are you losing when it putters and drops? 1mph? 5mph?

If it is floored, it will drop rpm for a second or two, and then will get back up in rpms, sometimes it happens more than not but it still is happening. I can send a video if needed, lmk where best place to contact would be

Thanks for the detail. My only question is related to the space you created for the govenor arm. Does that impact speed at all? Or is the speed really just in the throttle cable? If I don't want to fully open it up, would less space for the govenor be suggested? Great video, though. Thanks

They work in conjunction with eachother to ensure that you can still "putt" around slow while also being able to go fast. If you don't free up any space on the governor then you won't be able to thread out the throttle cable quite as much. So yes, the space on the governor is what really gives it speed, but it can also cause your cart to take off all or nothing.

Hey Wayne! Thanks! So there's a bolt on the top of your motor (driver side of motor) that is under a gray cover, the bolt adjusts the air to gas ratio and adjusting that bolt is typically the answer to fix a backfire. You might need to let the bolt out a little (turn it counter clockwise with large phillips head screw driver). If you google 2016 Club Car Precedent Illustrated Parts Catalog, you'll see a breakdown picture showing you exactly what I'm talking about.

I have one that will backfire every now and then when the engine is loaded up while going down hill, similar to if you were using engine braking going down hill in a car. The only bolt under the engine cover I can see is the one that adjusts the closed position of the throttle butterfly valve (similar to what an idle adjustment would be on a normal engine that idles and doesn't shut off automatically when the throttle is let off) I really enjoy your videos and thanks for posting this one!

Could you do this but with an onward lithium ion, like only goes 19.5 I would love to go like 30. Anything you can do?

Unfortunately, speeding up a Lithium Onward isn't as easy as speeding up any other Club Car out there. There are no speed codes to surpass 19.5mph, and the battery on the Onward is 58volts which is an issue because all after market controller/motors that could increase the speed are 48v or 72v. So the only way to increase a lithium Onward's speed is to change the rear axle gears (12-1 ratio) with high speed gears (6-1 or 8-1 ratio). Could you talk about or make a video about my issue. My 2023 Club Car Tempo-gas/EFI doesn’t work in reverse when I switch the lever to reverse, but… makes the beep sound. If I hold the reverse level by hand in reverse position, all the way back, It works. Do you know the cause and how to fix. Thanks

So you need to remove your rear engine cover/access panel. You will see your forward/reverse cable is connected to a fork on your rear axle. You will see two large nuts (I think they're a 20, 21 or 22, cant remember). What you have to do is loosen one of those nuts and thread your forward/reverse cable either forward or backwards and then retighten those nuts done.

What if I changed out the gears in addition to adjusting the governor? Will this put less stress on the engine and axles?

You can reach much greater speeds with high speed gears but the engine would also be working harder to get the cart going as you'd lose a lot of low end torque with higher speed gears. However, the motor would be running at a much lower RPM when driving faster with gears installed (less hard on the motor in that regard). As for the axle, installing high speed gears can cause a little more stress for the actual since it takes way more torque to spin the tires. So for both the motor and axle, it's a double edged sword in a way if you're concerned about wear.

I have a 2017 gas precedent. It randomly fails to go when you push the pedal down for 3-5 seconds. Happens about 40 percent of the time. Any idea what could cause that? Seems like many people had that issue with the electric ones and the MCOR but I didn't believe the gas models have that.

Ah yes, the dreaded compression stroke issue. So the motors in Precedents have an intake stroke and a compression stroke and some Precedents can struggle to start up if the motor stops in compression stroke. Now the reason varies, you could have a weak battery, you could have a weak starter generator, you could have a bad starter belt, or you could have carbon build up on valves or pistons which can cause this. A quick way to not deal with the 4s pause is to just tap the throttle to get the motor to turn over once and then hit the gas and it'll fire right up, but if you just sit on the throttle it'll take a few seconds to get going just like you have been experiencing. To find a solution, I'd first check and see if your battery is loosing juice, you could prove this by throwing a battery charger on the battery (not a trickle charger) and keep stopping and starting the motor and see if it struggles to start in compression stroke. If not, then you have a weak battery.......Hope this helps!

@bacartsvw because it's annoying that it shuts off and restarts and won't idle for 2 seconds when you stop at a sign. I bought this new over the phone from a dealer and had no idea they did this before buying. It's just annoying, is all. If I knew they did this I wouldn't have bought it.

@bacartsvw we don't play golf it's just a neighborhood cruiser, but if I'd known that they did this I would have bought a polaris ranger for approximately the same price. I love the cart besides this I guess I'll get used to it doing so.

my top speed is currently 18mph, but i eventually bog down and blow smoke from the exhaust. Am i running into the rev limiter? I have a 2005 club car ds.

I don't have much experience with DS's, but I do know that they have a 11.5hp motor, far less than the 14hp motor in Precedents, so 18mph is about as fast as you're going to go lol. As for the smoke and bogging down, it's very hard to say, it could be an carb issue, a fuel to air issue, etc.

If you did have to get a repair while under warranty, could you not simply reset the throttle cable and governor positions? There would be no other indicators the speed was increased, correct? Asking for a friend of course :)

Well, kind of. Club Car Onwards actually have a computer with a diagnostic on it that would allow dealers to read the highest rpm the engine has ever reached, which would very quickly show that the cart was once sped up. So considering I'm a dealer, and have had customers try to lie to me about their cart never being sped up and then proving them that it was, I wouldn't suggest it lol. Yes, I'm sure you could get away with it as most dealers aren't going to check those diagnostics, but still, I can't sit here and tell you "go for it" because I'm a dealer and would hate for somebody to do that to me.

Sorry about that Joe. Every computer and device is a little different and I test the audio on both my laptop and phone and you can barely hear the music on either device, so I'll have to look into the audio mixing and see what else I can do to make it better.

30 can be easily reached if you don't care that the throttle is either all or nothing. The trick is to get the most speed while also having your throttle pedal not be so touchy that you can't go 1 or 5 or 10 mph.

I have a new lifted 6 seater onward, gas powered and I did a small trick with a tie wrap in the back. I get 30 mph without a problem. It is an easy fix. Let me know if you are interested.
