That’s crazy. That’s how I throw punches already. I noticed a sparring partner would hit me with hooks at and incredibly long range so I adopted a long range form of all my punches. Never looked back. Also I love occupying the middle space with my lead arm. Instead of it being a stable long guard. I treat my lead hand like a rubber band and just throw as many feints and pawing jabs as possible to overwhelm my opponent’s senses.

As a taller fighter this was really a piece to complete the puzzle as i do prioritise footwork for my defence before everything else

These remind me of Muay Boran uppercuts and hooks. Thank you for these tips.

That long hook Gabriel did is said to be used in old pugilism (old English boxing). It's said to work well coming around the guard.

Shoulders of steel are also a requirement for this lead arm heavy style. Leaving that thing out there and using it all times to attack and defend comes with a price.

You gotta get used to it in sparring. Gotta start somewhere 💪🏾

throwing a hook with thumb facing down feels so uncomfortable for me, I'm gonna focus on mastering it asap

This is so very very nice! I sort of utilize this, but I've always struggled against the Overhand right, aggressive inside fighters and good counterpunchers, Is volume a key in this? Also, how would the Hitman style Flicker jabs pair with this? It could add even more angles to attack from
@aboulding2 ай бұрын
Volume punching and defensive traffic are required because yeah counter punchers and inside fighters are gonna see a feast if you don't move your feet. Distance on the bounce back is how you keep your melon safe. Punches and traffic occupy them mentally but you gotta move.

Sparred a guy who kept spear jabbing me and yes it is frustrating.

The backhand jab could be added. Much like Ali would do. Although Gabriel doesn't like that, it works. Also you don't necessarily need to make your arm more rigid (because you lost the rotation of your shoulder and you are trying to compensate for that) you can throw those punches from your HIPS, keeping your arms very light. Which I think is way better because you can be faster and what makes this really irritating to face is that the guy is just flickering those shots at you one after the other.

I love southpaw backhand jab like Bruce Lee does to setup the cross or overhand

Do you have any kickboxers that do this regularly? This type of style is very common for amateur boxers from former Soviet countries but would love to see if there are examples from high level kickboxers

When I throw long range hooks it feels slow and weak. How can I fix that?

How much is this influenced by the soviet style in boxing? Is there a similar kickboxing style? I had thoughts of karate or taekwondo but those are very generalised and only based on observation. Would love to hear your thoughts if you have the time 🙏

Ye I would think the muy Thai style of long guard will work well for kickboxing too kinda similar to the probing front hand

Ive wanted to add in bivol style combos and footwork for while into a K1 style... but all that goes through myhead is getting leg kicked. Any tips for bivol style bkxing in K1 that wiuld be amazing 🤌
@tszkwanliu88572 ай бұрын
I have been using it in sparring. It’s quite effective.You have to be light on the feet. Use jabs, cross and feints to bait the low kick. Once their low leg kick comes, pull your lead leg and counter.
