My Dad talked about a "dumpling" he used to have in Scotland when he was a little boy. He would say he'd just love to have another one. I was a teen at the time and didn't think of trying to find it or looking into it, Dad and I had a lot of issues that made for a hard relationship. But I wish I would have be able to make him one before he died. I'll make one for my toddler sometime soon and she'll grow up with it.

I'm from Northern Ireland, and in our family it has always been traditional to make and eat Clootie Dumpling at Hallowe'en. It's bloody delish, I could eat it literally every day! 😋😋😋😋😋

I'm from Northern Ireland too, and yes we'd have it at Halloween as well. How did you make yours? My Mum would use stale bread (flour only used if it was a bit wet) and water.

Well just 1 second and there you go: www.scottishfield.co.uk/food-and-drink-2/recipes/watch-how-to-make-your-own-tasty-clootie-dumpling/ Here is the recipe
Just made one of these after my daughter watched a tiktok video. It lacked the detail so I’ve used you’re method and timings, fingers crossed it comes out well (will find out in three hours 😂) 🤞

I already have a very old recipe for clootie dumpling and I've tried making it twice and failed with the skin. I watched this to see where I went wrong. Now I know, I didn't use enough flour or the right kind of pot and didn't dry it off well enough. So thanks for the tips, hopefully I'll have better success next time.

My mom used to make something very similar (the process) except she used meat. She remembered the recipe from her Mother. She called it an English Meat Pudding. She never wrote the recipe down😢 I’ve been looking for a recipe for years. I’m wondering if I could tweak this recipe and make it savory instead of sweet??

I've never tried that but why not? Just ensure the core temperature is at least 82C to ensure any meat is safely cooked - apologies for late answer...only just realised it was there! My fault.
