Make your own flagpole - sturdy, affordable, & simple!

You don't have to shell out $$$ for a flagpole when you can have the satisfaction of making your own. I'll walk you through it step by step and make it easy for you.
Ingredients:
2 - 10 ft chain link fence top rails (1 1/4" diameter)
2 - Eye bolts w/ nuts
1 - 12" 1 1/4" diameter nipple & 2 end caps*
2 - carabiners
(optional) 2 - quick links
1-2 bags of concrete post mix
An American Flag
*Use galvanized rather than black to avoid rust.

Thanks for the video, one change I would recommend is reversing the poles so the female end is on top of the male end upon insertion.....ahm. That way you obtain shingleing and no water gets between the poles at the joint.

Great idea! I could see putting an eye bolt on top and one down lower, then use paracord to tie on the carabiner. Then you can raise and lower your flag without taking the pole down.

looks great. All I would recommend is using pvc collars that rotate around the pole to prevent the flag from wrapping. :)

I recommend using flag mounting rings and a larger/deeper base. The amount of force created by a strong wind on a large flag can be enormous.

@@j-boy9256 Build went Great . Followed your plans and used two foot pvc at the base and creted it in and have not had a single issue, We live in Florida by Ponce inlet and have gotten rocked by some bad storms with crazy wind. Thanks Again

When you need to take the flag down and/or fly it half mast, is it easy to disconnect the poles or do you need to have a tall ladder and do it that way?

I just did this. I think it would work great for this purpose. The two things different is I’m installing a security pin near the bottom so that it will prevent the poll from being pulled out accidentally from an unexpected large wind gust. I’m also only using one ten foot poll on each side of the driveway with a two foot deep hole. It’s a rectangle one. I want to also use each one as a flag pole as well. Our football team flags on game day and USA and state flag

Hmm, I love the idea. But, I’d like to add pullies to mine. I like the idea of just using rope to change flags out. I’ve always bought those retractable in-ground poles, but they are always a pain in the butt to lower because they stick and then the push pins break. I looked into poles with pullies, but they get real pricey. Some are thousand of dollars🤦‍♂️. Anywho, I’m going to try your method but just use pullies and I’ll also paint mine white. Thanks!

Probably not. If you put more than 1 on there, the wind might take out the pole. But it's been a year and a half now, and I've had no issues with one flag.

Does the flag end up wrapping around itself after a while? I was looking for a way to allow the flag to swivel around with the wind where it's attached to the pole so it won't get caught up?

Once in place and upright, for maintence and cleaning purposes, how do you take it down?

Whenever I need to take it down for weather I just pull both poles and store them in the garage. I put the extra cap over the pipe in the ground.

If you bury the 5 gallon bucket into the ground it might work. If it's sitting on the surface I think it will tip right over.

Nice but doesn't the flag wrap around the pole. There should be a looped weight ahead bottom so the flag will turn around the pole. And you should have something at the top that spins around with with the flag.

We are subject to tornadoes here in North Carolina and that size of tubing won't cut it with a good quality flag flying.

Nope it won't hold up to a tornado. But we've had huge winds here that have blown fences down and shingles off roofs and it's held up perfectly.
