Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise, I have only just started making strops and can't believe how much sharper my knives are. All the best from Scotland. Garry

Honing Compound or Jewelers Rouge.

It is used to sharpen blades/tools better than just using the leather by itself. Keep in mind that stropping is widely accepted as a final step in the sharpening process.

what could i use as stropping compound?
@daddyfixesit-th3ls8 жыл бұрын
In my use of about 10 different products, I think green compound is clearly the best. It is a chromium oxide abrasive that both cuts and polishes hard and soft metals. Google "stropping compounds" and you will see a hundred choices and sources. I don't think that price is a clear indication of quality level, therefor cheap isn't necessarily not as good.

In doing some research I came across this forum thread which I found very enlightening. Perhaps for a novice like me it’s too much knowledge on the subject but terrific info nonetheless. Daddyfixesit, what are your thoughts on the misinformation surrounding CrOx? straightrazorplace.com/honing/28088-consumer-alert-chromium-oxide-bars-not.html
