I think you will be happy with the box. Not sure what your comfort level is for wiring, but as you get more comfortable, you can really customize to your specific needs. I use a similar box in my boat because LiveScope was draining main battery too fast, now I can fish all day with zero worries.

It is the best thing I ever did for my LVS setup at the bow of my boat. Totally eliminated any concern of killing my cranking battery during a full day of fishing, especially when running everything during a tournament. Alot less weight too! Before I did this I actually ran my big motor for well over an hour in a tournament, so I could keep using LVS. Thanks for watching!

Think I have to move my lighted toggle on/off switch to side of box. I have it on top with 23v gauge. Accidentally an item was laid on top and switched on the box over week. And came back to use and lithium was dead. As the black box will drain if switch is on. Maybe a different style on/off switch could be added. Learned hard way. Darn it

Great video, all about DIY'ing whatever you have time for but just FYI Bold North Outdoors sells boxes almost identical to this in all variations, not expensive, good people, they've also been working w amped outdoors (another great company) for a long time, BNO boxes fit various amped outdoors lithium batteries very well. Which again all the amped outdoors batteries I've owned have been top notch. And ship quickly. Haha wish I had any endorsements of any sort, unfortunately just blow too much money on things I barely use.

Followed most of your design last year But found the Side Port connections were cumbersome and always had to remove box from my Ranger rear compartment and plugging in I need to try and connectors on Top of Box for ease of connecting The Plano Box too lid plastic latch) already broke. Hmmm

Every situation takes some small modifications. Every size definitely doesn’t fit every situation. The box in my Vexus has charge port on top of box for access. Had a latch on a box break also. I bought another box and used that latch. Sucks spending more money but it is a solution. Thanks for watching!

@ That’s what I am going to do as well… lol I am going to look for a 12 gauge wire with Spiral Top Leads and see if I can’t add in Banana Leads R/B for each the 106 and Black Box And try being able to plug in from top. Hi Paul, yes you can put a fuse on the positive wires between the switch and battery for added protection. If the devices you are connecting to the battery via the SAE port do not have inline fuses then you should definitely add an in line fuse to the SAE positive wire as well.

In my opinion you ill be fine with that short of a run. Heavier gauge wire is needed when you are making long runs, like from the bow of a boat to the battery compartment in the back of the boat. Take a look at wire gauge the supplied power cord form Garmin and I am pretty sure you will agree. Thanks for watching!

Check and make sure the polarity on your SAE plugs are the same. Positive to positive. I have purchased a few SAE pigtails of and the polarity is reversed. I’m not able to explain why but I have had similar issue.

@@irenew95 Have your tried charging battery outside of the box? If it is charging outside, box I would double check all your connections and use a volt meter to confirm continuity of SAE wires to assure red wire is the positive all the way from + batter terminal to + lead on the charger. Sounds crazy, but you can't always trust the wire colors on connectors/pigtails.

You could eliminate the switch, but I would strongly recommend having a switch. Simply plugging your unit into a hot wire could cause damage to your electronics. With a switch you are making the initial connection to your units with no power. Think of it like using a switch to power a lamp versus plugging and unplugging the cord from an the electrical outlet to turn the light on and off.

You can use a butt connector large enough to accommodate the wires. Just be sure to use either a heat shrink connector or heat shrink tubing to seal the connection. Thanks for watching!

If you are protecting from a short in the off/on switch then you need to consider what the amp rating is for your switch. In general a fuse equal to the switches amp rating. The 1222 and LVS34 have individual inline fuses to protect them.

Hi Scott. I used the same components in my boat for the Amped Outdoors 14.8 32Ah battery and have had zero issues. I use it to power a EchoMap 102 and LiveScope box. I am not sure about physical size of the 42 and if it would fit in this box. I know the 32 fits but it is a tight fit. Thanks for watching!

Do you have your power box in a storage compartment, and your wing for your graph and livescope run to it? I am getting ready to install the 106sv and livescope on my boat. I want to use the power box and install it and the black box in my starboard compartment because there is already routing for wiring from there to the bow. The only thing I’m not sure of is that if I run it that way I think I’ll need to run maybe #10 or #8 gauge wire. The total distance is less than ten feet, but how would I connect the power wires from the graph and black box to the leads to the power box? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bryan. I do have a my box mounted in the front of the center rod box on my Vexus. Fortunately for me the 106 power cords reached my box and I have the LVS box right next to the battery box so I did not have to run additional wires. Having said that you should run a heavier gauge from the 106 to the box. Since it is a short distance I would think #10 gauge would be sufficient. Make sure you keep the fuses that came with the LVS and 106 power cables in place. Normally when people are talking about heavy gauge wire it is because they are running multiple graphs off of one battery and running long distances from the batteries in the back of the boat. I just used a shrink tube type connecter large enough to capture both wires from the 106 and black box. I found this connector that is similar to what I used just make sure you get one large enough for your application. I use 14 gauge in the box. You may need to use larger gauge wire when connecting your graph and LVS. I was able to just use the power cords that came with each unit because of my box location. If you have to run a long distance between power box and units you may want to consider 8 or 10 gauge wire. If you use too small of wire on a long run you risk voltage drop which will lower the performance of your graph and LVS. Best way to avoid all of that is to locate power box close so you can just use the supplied power cables. If you do not use the manufacturers power cords do not forget to put an in line fuse on your power lines to the units! Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Hey there sir I’m looking to build this same set up. My question is i have a 6amp switch laying around i was going to use on lights. Will it be fine to use on this set up or do i need to step up to a 20amp switch

It depends on total power consumption you're looking to pull through the fuse. General rule of thumb for a 6A is the system max should be around 4A. Given a battery voltage of 15V and the 4A limit you want to make sure the total power draw is below 60W. The equation would be max load (W) = nominal voltage * 0.66* fuse rating

Keep in mind choosing the best fuse is done by determining the lowest value your system can tolerate in a normal operating condition. If you go too high above normal operating current then it will be that much less effective at protecting your circuit. Lower is better with fuses. Hope this helps

Yes you can add additional inline fuses as recommend by Garmin. I did not mention fuses in the video because I mounted my box in my center rod box, well working reach of the factory power wires. The factory red wire has the required in line fuse. Having multiple fuses will not change the performance of the battery or your units. Shrink tubing would be a great add. The portable boxes I make for ice fishing have shrink tubing. I did not add tot his box because it’s kept permanently in a dry location. Thanks for watching!! BTW I do not have any recommendations for a connector that will work with the battery connections for 2 - 10 gauge wires. Possibly you could run the 10 gauge wires to a marine power block and power the block from the battery with a single red and black wire.

Got my box yesterday and waiting from Amazon for my parts duplex Amcor Marine Wire Question Do you think I can keep the charger in the box with the battery so end of day I can take the cord and plug in charger? I researched the amped NMC battery. In my opinion its a dangerous battery to put in a boat. Manage it wrong and you have a fire. It’s cycle life is much lower than a LiPoe batt. Yes it has a a higher full charge voltage but its expensive and won’t last.

This is perfect and what I need. Do you sell complete boxes? I have the same electronics. Can I add 2 SAE plugs? Reason is I will have 2 runs to rear of boat where I will put box inside my Ranger compartment The 2 runs will be 10 gauge wire As stated in Garmin instructions since over 15-20’ away. It also states for the 2 fuses to be added approx 4” from battery source. I assume if I added 2 SAE connectors I could plug charger into either? You mentioned on the SAE connection that 2 leads could be inserted and crimped A Red and a Blk But with 10 gauge that is a larger wire. Maybe you know a crimp connection that could take 2 10 gauge wires? I think this box would work great as I want to separate my LiveScope stuff from my 5 batteries in boat. And as I place the box in the compartment mentioned it is where all my chargers are for the 5 batteries Then end of day I could plug in both charger systems. A lighted switch would be helpful to make sure power is On and also to show Charging. Last question Can a Red Black post type connection be added to install the Garmin units ? I would want 2 - Red Black posts with the ability to use crimped eye connectors? Then still add the SAE connection for charger Thanks again This is the Best Video ever Well done
