I've been making replacement door straps and grab handles for people for years. Super easy

Cool idea. I ended up doing a door strap and a roll bar handle for my LJ with your approach. It took a few tries and my wife the avid knitter to help me get started.

Perfect timing, your video came up in my KZbin feed just days before the strap broke on my 05 LJ. I ended up just cutting the old strap off with a knife instead of unscrewing the bar on the door. Good job on the video!

Thank you. Not only did I learn to make door straps from paracord, I can now tie my own laces too. 😂

When I had my LJ, I made paracord door straps that were reflective. I did it because I imagine that I would have extra safety when opening my door. Since no one ever plowed into me when I was getting out of my Jeep I guess it worked.

That is awesome what you did with the paracord. My 90 YJ still has the original door stops I think this would make a nice upgrade and blue.

If you add a loop of bungee slightly shorter than the paracord it’ll slow the door before it pulls on the door anchors. It especially helps if your passenger just lets the door fling open when off camber.

Just a tip when you do the singe at the end only leave about 1/8 of an inch to burn it will melt fast to the braid and won’t come loose ( I make paracord stuff all the time ) including grab handles

So glad I found this video. 3 weeks ago I bought a pair of new bartact paracord door straps for my jeep tj and the stiching already broke. They where 25 bucks and not worth a dame I have alot of parracord so doing this tomorrow. Screw Bartact first and last purchase for me from them. First impressions are Hugh.

Cassie, (hope I spelled that right) as a slick way to terminate or whip the paracord, or any type of rope or cords, you can slip a short length (1/2" or maybe 1") of electrical shrink wrap over the ends, just a little bit larger than the cord size, before you start if possible. When you know where you want to stop and cut, position and heat the shrink wrap with a heat source. A heat gun works much better than a lighter ;) Cut the cord in the middle of the shrink wrap, or the end, depending on your future needs. If you put a piece on twice your needed length, then the new un-used end has a pre-made whip so it will not unravel on you ;) This is also a great way to make your own custom HD boot laces with the ends secured by the shrink wrap. When I was in the Army (Jan 87-Aug 96) in the 75th, and the 82nd, we would make all kinds of things from paracord. If you use larger cordage, even up to 3/8" or 1/2" poly rope from Home Depot or Lowes etc, you can make custom colored straps for bags, tools, equipment, etc. If the larger cord is too big to go through wherever you need it to go, but you need a larger handle or gripping surface, you can make a second layer of knots over the first. This is basically macrame, by the way. Some call this simple knot a Cobra knot, and the 2nd layer some call a King Cobra knot. I hope that this helps some people, and Stay Classy!!))

Hi I’m new to your channel, subscribed and liked. I just got done doing this on my JK tube doors. My knots started twisting by the end, like a spiral, any tips to keep it flat?
@JeepGearGadgets6 жыл бұрын
My best guess is that you didn’t alternate between left and right loop. Not too sure though, I’ve never had that issue before

Why is the mirror mounted to the windshield frame? It's suppose to be on the door hinge. Someone mounted them there so they would still have mirrors when the doors are off but I'm not sure if that's the best place for them. Check it for yourself. Nice idea on the strap. I'm gonna get my daughter to help me do mine.
@JeepGearGadgets6 жыл бұрын
I actually prefer them mounted on the body, it’s nice to be able to take the doors off any not worry about adding mirrors or anything.

Quick tip, use your lighter instead of your fingers to press the end and you won't get your fingers burned. It also leaves a smooth surface.

doesn't paracord stretch too much for this application? I'd hate to rely on it to keep doors from banging
@JeepGearGadgets5 жыл бұрын
Since it’s a short length it doesn’t stretch much. It’s been working great so far!

It does stretch slightly, however I have not had any problems with ours stretching to the rear view mirrors yet.
