Would you be able to make a tutorial for adding new Pokémon into gen 4 games or like new forms such as regionals I could never fully figure it out myself. Love the videos keep it up!

Hey sauceyatta your videos are great! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a question: how do I add a static overworld encounter? Like the legendary pokemon encounters. I want to add the missing legendaries to soulsilver. Does DSPRE have a tool for that?

Yup, I have been planning on making a tutorial on this and I keep forgetting. It's actually VERY easy to do. You can look at the script code for already existing static encs, and just adjust the dex number and overworld sprite. The bones of the script are the same

I've been trying to make my own gen 5 (black 2) rom hack with some tools recently I got the tools from your video. I've only been editing encounters and trainer battles (pokemon and learnsets) and after I had edited most trainers until post game and changed a couple of places encounter I decided to test run it. It ran perfectly fine until I had to fight the first battle (against my rival) the game said "unknown error please power off" or something like that whilst showing a black screen. The only things I had changed for this battle was their first pokemon from a snivy to a treecko. Their ai level was 16. It's a single battle. Number of pokemon 1. Trainer class 145. Money 25. No reward items or prize and hadn't clicked any of the boxes such as healer moves nature hack or items. The treecko is level 5 0 IVs ability: any(1 or 2). I'd be extremely grateful if you could suggest anything that could've caused this or mistakes I may have made. Oh yeah and the editor is BWTE v2.2 if that matters. Also I've always wanted to get into making my own pokemon games so thank you for helping.

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, but there are separate editors for bw1 vs bw2. You might have the wrong one, which would probably mess up some of the file systems. I would also try using pokeweb (offline version) since it has these capabilities too. (And is a more modern tool)

I've only just started watching your videos, but doing so gave me the kick to try to hack heartgold myself. I started to play with maps and would like to add a simple ish area next to New Bark Town, but am struggling (from what I've seen) to find a way to connect this (make a minor edit to remove a couple of border trees for example). I'd love some tutorial guidance on joining an existing map to a new one?

If you want to connect them, you will need to remake new bark town from scratch, as there isn't a way to edit already made maps

Is there a reason why your map files in matrix editor is bigger than in your older video where you used dspre ?

There's an option to expand matrix 0 to have a larger overworld matrix. It's in the ROM toolbox button. I'm using it for iridium version since it will have a massive overworld

What would you say are some tools/ capabilities holding back gen 4 and 5 rom hacking compared to gen 3 and below? I see such few rom hacks for Ds compared to GB-GBA

Not much, you can do so much with gen 4 nowadays. People just don't know the tools.
