Great idea, thank you! I made a bunch of them to hang a long run of garden hose along a wire fence. Out of the way of the lawn mower, but ready to use for watering. So quick and easy once the jig is made. Thanks again!

Way better tutorial, than the guy that said you only need a steel nut and bolt ! And the best part is, there's commentary ! Perfect, you've been a big help ! Thank you

Fantastic! Thank you so much for this video - simple always works best! Lifesaver! As another commenter said - I hope some young people watch this & learn something worth learning - you really don't have to buy everything! The future is people making their own stuff! Thanks again - going to set about making my jig now! Cheers from Cheshire, England.

Great tip! Will try it tomorrow. (If you don't have a big diameter bolt/rod around, you can use emt conduit, pipe nipple or rachet socket.)

I like the pins; never thought of doing that. I never throw away wire coat hangers; use them for all kinds of things including everything you show except the compression pins which I now will. I like taking things otherwise thrown away to make something that saves a purchase. especially when it's better than the purchased product.

@@ScoutCrafter You're welcome. One time I restored a pair of old rusty linesman's by soaking them in seltzer water for a few days. After that, I brushed them and scrubbed them. Lastly, I used some WD-40 and oil. The weren't shiny and pretty, but they were rust free and opened smoothly after the treatment.

Nice vid! I keep trying to convince local thrift shops to not throw wire hangers away, to no avail so far. Since the advent of plastic hangers, they all say they throw them away. Occasionally someone will say they'll save them for me but there are no wire hangers whenever I go back in to their stores.

I made something similar for making hooks but I like your design better. Some advice for folks who cannot get wire coat hangers any more. In the States, just go around after any election day and collect some of the wire framed election signs. Discard the sign material and keep the wire frames. The are more heavy duty than coat hangers. I usually wait a little while until it is obvious that the candidate on the sign is not coming back to get their sign.

Maybe you could do a video on making wire benders / jigs for real jobs... I have been having a hard time looking for appropriate "S" hooks to use with a jack chain. The stores carry either too big or too small some carry the chain but not the hooks to fit it. So I thought I'd make some out of coat hanger. No easy task. I looked up wire jigs, and all I could find were jigs for Jewelry wire or fish hooks. and one that didn't look like it had what I needed for this job, but I'm going to get for others. This video is perfect, except I don't have the tools to cut the heads off of bolts.

i purchased a great boxing bag and stand that i mounted into the concrete in my garage, the chains and swivel are a bot too long for me and the bag hangs lower than I'd like. I am 6'3 so i had temporarily feed the chains through the carabiner, i need to bend the S hooks so i can properly reduce the chain length but they're pretty strong and i don't know the best way to easily get it done. Any recommendations?
@ScoutCrafter
@ScoutCrafter 4 жыл бұрын
By bend I'm not sure in what way... Those S hooks can be pretty tough! I made this video a while ago for Eye Bolts but can work with S hooks too! Hope it helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmXTo414h8aJisk

Pretty crafty! How would I tighten a 5/16 thick S hook though? It’s for the safety chain of a trailer. I don’t know how to tighten it to close it onto the chain....
@ScoutCrafter
@ScoutCrafter 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Luis, Ideally you would use a press but you can also use a vise if you place the hook in the center of the jaws... 5/16 is pretty strong and needs some persuasion! =D

Hello snakemonkey555, If you need really heavy duty stuff you can use music wire or you can obtain other types of wire at a welding supply shop like brass or aluminum... Even Home Depot sells smaller diameter cold rolled steel!!! Great stuff! Thanks very much!

ScoutCrafter Hey Scout, thanks for the reply. I’ll have to go to Home Depot and check it out. Hopefully there’re cheap like me, lol! The wire hangers these days are really thin. The hangers of yester-year was the good stuff. Thanks again!

You are so right about the terrible hangers today! I was taking a walk one night and I saw this house threw out a load of wire hangers! So I grabbed them!
