You are so amazing! I NEED to approximately dupe the Shiseido softening lotion (toner) that I've been using for almost 10 years and which has been discontinued with no warning. I have been going through almost 100 other Japanese/Asian/non-Asian softening lotions/toners' formulas to see if any of them are at all similar. The original had a dye and fragrance as last ingredient. I would prefer to make mine without them, but with a preservative that stabilizes the formula. This is the ingredients list for the Shiseido toner (Pureness Softening Lotion Alcohol-Free): Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Palo Azul Wood Extract, Xylitol, PPG-13 Decyltetradeceth-24, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Citric Acid, Dimorpholinopyridazinone, Magnesium Chloride, Peony Root Extract, Saxifraga Sarmentosa Extract, Rosemary Extract, Calcium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Benzoic Acid, Fragrance, Yellow 5, Green 3 . The alternative is to take a similar formula and see what to add or change to make it more like the toner I need for my skin to be normal. The closest is Clinique's Moisture Surge Face Spray which shares the top four ingredients, but it is not hydrating to my skin at all. The closer formula is Cle de Peau Beaute Hydro Softening Lotion but it is fricking $115 and fragrance is far higher on the ingredients list, although it shares the top 7 ingredients and 4 of the last 7 ingredients. Still, I'm not allowing myself to buy that! LOL. I'm also interested in a hydrating/repairing fragrance free shampoo and conditioner for my color treated hair. I hope you can help. Thank you so much!!! Cheers, Julie

First of all I would to say that my super excited about this series. I am a chemist myself, and I currently work at the chemical plant that is more related to the oil and gas industry. Therefore my overall knowledge in the chemistry related to skincare and cosmetics is pretty limited, since it is not something that I learned in college or that I do at my current job. If I had to pick and choose, I would like to learn more about lipstick formulations. You mentioned in a previous video that formulations that contain both lipids and hydrophilic ingredients have a higher risk of micro-contamination. It would he nice to learn about the ingredients needed for a lipstick and how much of what and the WHY. It is my assumption that all lipsticks need a basic formula and they all have different percentages of dyes for the different colors (I could be 100% wrong about this lol) As you mentioned in the video, the websites have examples of different formulations, but they do not really explain the why. I suppose that if they did all makeup companies would go broke. Anyway, I love your channel💕 I hope that in a future video you could explain more about the science behind the ingredients. Maybe I am a little bias because of my background, and I am self aware that not everyone will be interested, but it will definitely help me understand why there are some lipstick that cost $2.99 (Wet and Wild) vs $40.00 (Pat McGrath) like why is the price justified 🤔 Just writing thoughts in here lol

I love this Kenna! Thank you so much! I am 51, and very fortunately have been blessed with youthful skin. My skincare routine started at 13, as Mom said due to the hormonal breakouts my skin would need extra tlc.... So skincare is 2nd nature to me. So 5 years ago I started making my own nutritional supplements and decided to start with skincare too. Initially it was very very basic masks, oils for the body, soaps, body lotions etc. Then I started buying Resveratrol, amino acids, euk, ascorbic acid, squalane, retinol, hyaluronic acid, etc and making small batches of serums and creams. My Vit C serum I mix daily on my hand, so I know it hasn't oxidised. So, this series is brilliant for me to go to the next level so THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH. I love it, and I love your channel. Thank you Kenna 😘 A product I would be very interested in making would be The Ordinary Buffet with copper. That product is a game changer for mature skins xxx

Fantastic I can't wait to see how you formulate Kenna. I have been making my own skincare and hair care at home for the past 10 years as a hobby and it's so much fun. One thing that I have learned on this journey is not order large quantities of raw materials as they have a shelf life and you want to be able to use them up before they expire. I love surfactants and all types of emulsifiers, including ones like Sepinov 10, AVC, etc. I live in Australia so I am limited to where I can get my raw materials. New Directions Australia have a lot of them and Aussie Soap Supplies have some really good surfactants and some beginner books for lotions and shampoo etc. Kenna I know this is jumping the gun a bit but I would love to see some Korean type formulas for skincare! 👍👏😍

Im so glad I found this video! I’ve been making my own hair masks and conditioners for a while and recently decided to try my hand at leave ins and hair milks. I discovered botanicplanet.ca for raw materials. It’s a company based in Ontario. Their prices and shipping costs were the best I could find online. But it should be noted that a lot of diy stores selling raw materials in bulk have been popping up here and there in local communities so you might even have a store near you! Thank you for the tips Kenna!

Lotioncrafter: Best prices, SDS pdfs & formulas, if they're able to package your order cheaper they will refund you the difference on shipping. Makingcosmetics: They've got ingredients you can't find anywhere else (amodimethicone, etc), SDS & sample formula pdf. Saffireblue: Decent, until you need customer service, then they are crazy vindictive. Not mentioned suppliers: Makeyourownbuzz: Least expensive (SCI powder can be as low as $7/lb!), but least variety of products. Smallest purchasable size sometimes is 1lb. Formulatorsampleshop: Amazing variety, sometimes better prices than Lotioncrafter's, great for hard to find hair ingredients (only place I can find Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol).
