When you hold the needle whilst pulling it through the other end of the fabric, put a finger and your thumb over the eye of the needle (you might be able to see me doing it in the video). That way, you provide some friction, so the thread doesn't slip out of the hole really easily. It's a good point, thank you for bringing it up!
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
I totally agree; I often make lots of failed attempts at the facial features without showing them all on camera! I do try to suggest people spend time getting them right in these videos. Also if you manage to make Yoshi, he'll have reason to think that!
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
That is a tricky bit. Thanks for letting me know; I'll try to be clearer with this sort of thing in future.
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
I'm glad the six-part video worked well! I'll be trying some new things this summer, but further into the future I would definitely like to try another long adventure!
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
For this one, I looked at the Yoshi which I bought (my green one) and made a template based on its pieces. It's a lot easier with the template and instructions presented to you!
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
The actual cutting and sewing took about 15 hours, but I was trying to work out the best way to do it at the same time (and making mistakes), so I think it would normally take about 10. The video editing took an additional 15 or so, and making voiceover another couple. That's good!
@spectre.shadows5 жыл бұрын
I remember I wanted to make this for years as a kid, I came back to it recently and making it in the beginning was time consuming and tedious and difficult, but it got easier as I made it. I never sewed anything else before this lol.
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
Yeah the nose was the trickiest bit. I thought it looked better this way than the way the Yellow Yoshi had it though. If you like, you could pinch it in by using some thread which goes in and out of the nose from top to bottom.
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
I'm going to look through all the requests I've had and look for a popular one. I'll go for a simpler one this time since I last did Yoshi and Toad, which are quite complicated.
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
If you do, you could do this: draw out an edge the same length as the current long nose piece. Then draw a semicircle by placing your compasses at the centre of this line. Cut out a 60 degree wedge in the semicircle, which digs about 2/3 of the way towards the centre of the straight line. I think this should roughly give the piece I used for the yellow Yoshi, before I changed it.

1) I hoped this template had a fairly round nose? I didn't make the green Yoshi; I used it as a rough guide to make templates for the yellow and blue ones. 2) That is true, it isn't the strongest, but if it's at the seams that usually means the stitching is the problem. Make sure you use a blanket stitch (you can see my Whacka tutorial for details). As for stronger fabric, I'm not too sure but staff at a crafts shop should give advice. Hope this helps :)

In response to the sudden flood of messages about the next video: I'm currently working on the "half"-plush video and the Toad/Toadette tutorial side by side, since the days are really sunny and that's a good time to film a tutorial. But first I'm thinking of posting an update video, possibly showing my face if people are interested?
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
You could make any pictures into a video (using e.g. Windows Movie Maker) and then post it as a video response! That's the best way for other KZbinrs to find it.
@goomzilla11 жыл бұрын
I might, or if I do that sort of thing I might just put it on this channel. I've been meaning to do that for a while but I probably won't get around to it for ages still- I have a lot of other plans!

A fair bit! But it's not a problem; it doesn't hurt if you're careful. If you're worried about poking yourself you could try using a thimble, but most people don't find them necessary.

This is super adorable... I wish my sewing skills were slightly better so I could make this for my boyfriend... I know he likes Mario, and I'm sure he'd like Yoshi since he liked cute things... But my skills just aren't good enough... Anyways, thank you very much for making this tutorial, I'm sure I'll be able to try this soon... However, I'm not going to use the same kind of fabric or felt that you do... Do you think that it would be okay with using Jean like fabric? (Trousers) I can't buy much fabric because I'm running low on money...
@goomzilla10 жыл бұрын
That should work, but it's not ideal- it won't be very soft as a plush and could be quite difficult to sew with by hand. Old T-shirts would work better than trousers. On the other hand, it would be very tough!
@bladerootes24910 жыл бұрын
goomzilla I see. Thank you for your input on this. I'll be trying this very soon, I have some felt now, I got some for an early birthday gift. I'll be printing the template and trying to sew this once I'm done with my first project. Anyways, thank you very much, Goomzilla.
