Sphericons are these mesmerizing shapes that behave in pretty non-intuitive ways. I've been having a field day experimenting and designing all kinds of variations, so I'm excited to share my results.

And it could be sliced into parts that can be glued together and fit on most printers. Then a bunch of people can claim one or two parts print them then mail them to a event or travel to the event to drop off their parts. Then everyone assembles it

I think it’s crazy how popular these toys are now and that you designed them! I remember 5 ish years ago when I first saw makers muse video on the sphericon, and then I found your videos on them! I tried my best as a little kid to make a paper one but I didn’t have anyone to print it out for me, so mine didn’t work the best 😅. However today I was reminded of them, as I saw my principal have one sitting on his desk! It’s a small world we live in!

For the sphericon puzzle, in order to make it more secure, you could have an axis that snaps the two pieces of the puzzle together, that way while turning between magnet connections, there isn’t the chance for the pieces to come apart enough for a marble to escape

On the topic of marble consistency. Some channels on youtube are crafting marble structures and they use glass plates to sort the marbles by diameter. Maybe you want to look them up, in case this is not your last marble-based puzzle :) There is a lot of great design in all of these, I love what you did with this super basic concept! And if you can order groups of marbles, then I would assume that you can order a gradient too, don't back down from a challenge ^^ When you do your cad tutorial, could you talk a little about how you achieved the different shapes, especially the retro line look? It would be much appreciated!

I dont know how difficult this would be, but do the geode one but use a clear purple for the inside, and rocky coloured shell. And if you left it in 2 pieces that can disconnect and reconnect, you could put a cavity inside with some leds and a small battery, and have it light up the clear filament parts. I just think that it would look more mystical with transparent crystals, and even more so with the light and the motion that appears magical!

Awesome Astrolabicon! I myself designed a puzzle using marbles that is based on a continuous infinity symbol. I'm amased of how ell yours work. I'll definitelly consider that magnet-solution for my future designs. Also you calculated the number of balls perfectly without rnning int the problem of gaps (which I encountered). That's a great design there. I hope Oskar van Deventer saw it ;) The idea of using an astrolabicon as a base is very interesting and comes close to one of my next projects. I thought of building a puzzle similar to the Astrolabacus but that was based on the moebius loop. for that one, I only have to find out how to design the loop in a CAD-software first. Any ideas on that?

Devin - great stuff, again! I’m curious to know whether you just glued the magnets in? I embedded a magnet in a cube print (experimenting with various inspirations), and the magnet shot up off the print and stuck to the hot end! I then superglued it in, used blue painters tape, and continued the print to print over the magnet.

To cure sanding marks (that even finer grits leave on some print surfaces) you can hit the object with some spray glaze. Match the surface finish of the glaze to the look of the filament so as not to detract from the appearance (example: after printing and sanding a glossy filament, to restore the gloss from the matte sanding marks I used some gloss spray glaze, problem solved).
