Yeah for a project what about trying to figure out how to create one of those Japanese Yosegi Puzzle Boxes. Even if that is too hard you could try to use some of the print in multi color techniques to create boxes that look like them anyways to package up the ball puzzles. I'm sure there are plenty of other puzzles you can design as well. especially if you start with the concept of how it works and then you just design the shape to work with the specific puzzle/mechanism. This will be a great challenge and you could even put it out to your viewers and followers as well and say anyone who designs a puzzle and submits it will have it featured in your video. you can then take the best ones or even all of them and then send half to Mr. Puzzle and the other half to Chris Ramsey and then when they are done with them they exchange them maybe making a few duplicates of specific ones designed for each person. You can get an idea of what kind of style Chris has very easily. Another thing to print in color might be trying to 3D print a card and if you want to go crazy make something that does a card trick. maybe re-designing a classic trick like move a hole through a card, changing a card or even marked cards some how tricky with the angle or pattern of the print on the back. I know 3D printing 52 cards might be a bit too much but you can pick some of your favorites and just do those. Good luck and hope to see your puzzles on Chris's video and can't wait to see what his quarantined mind comes up with as an intro for it... Scan a picture of it and then make it look like it printed out of a regular printer with effects, create a laser room and make it look like the laser zaps it into existence with editing, or have it magically appear somewhere. Either way make sure to send him the footage of it printing and any other cool shots and stuff you think he could use to make the intro and to introduce the Make Anything channel.

Put a box (preferably plastic) on top of stuff you're painting outside to prevent junk from landing on the paint while it cures

I come from more of a woodworking background. In the wood world when one is trying to achieve that “rubbed out” high gloss look, you would use lacquer instead of polyurethane. There are a couple advantages. Lacquer dries in like 10 minutes, and it can also pretty predictably be coated wet on wet. Also each subsequent coat basically dissolves the previous coat and become this one homogenous thing at the end, which lends itself well to sanding. Polyurethane is basically layers on top of layers, like a jawbreaker. Sometimes when you sand through one layer but not another you can see those witness lines. I really don’t know what effect lacquer has on PLA though. The solvents in it might dissolve the print for all I know. Maybe someone with more experience in coating 3D prints with lacquer could chime in. Really cool stuff you’re doing as always. Take it easy and be well.

My sanding: 240, 400, 800, 1200, last two wet. Acrylic clear coat, multiple thin passes (at least 5). Does the job, every time. Some filament actually look the best just after 240 and very thin coat. It doesn't get glossy but makes the surface have a uniform look. WOrks best on natural/beige/brown and white plastic. Black needs to be sanded carefully, you may need to skip the 240 as it can scratch the surface too easily. Sanding sponges are the best, they are easier to clean and they don't clog easily but they are a bit pricey, save them for objects that have tough shapes for sand paper. Print sanding blocks that are meant for the piece.. That is one thing that we often forget, we can copy the exact shapes from the model to sanding blocks that fit the need perfectly..

i have to say I LOVE all the different techniques you come up with using somewhat minor code tweaks. If you know of any filament that comes out really clear as a single layer or two when printed, that could give you a good protective layer before the colors are applied. Then when you finish it, you could try the poly spray or a clear resin coat, and not worry about having to sacrifice too much of the design material to finishing.

One, great opening! Two, you should make an 'insane chain puzzle' which can be made of infinitely many midpieces that have two tubes and two half loops. Then two end pieces that have a short half loop and a long half loop. In the one form it's a chain (but won't bend), in the other form it's a series of short loops enclosed by one large one, and then all combinations in between.

You can get a 3D print to a shine by going up to >1500 grit for wet sanding. Polishing after that you can see your own reflection even without urethane.

I once did the first layer thing, I did 2 layers of each color in different files, all at the same height so the surface was glass smooth, and printed from lightest color to darkest color, definitely needed a perfect first layer tho

@@mlazzarotto If I'm understanding what L3D is saying. The wavy pattern was made by breaking it up into multiple files. Determine the height of your pattern, keeping in mind to leave room for the print nozzle, and set your z jump accordingly. You just gotta split up your model file wisely. Seeing the creations in this video makes me want to explore the artistic capabilities of FDM. Time for some experiments :)

trcmustang I bought the Mynt3D pro 3D pen off Amazon. I believe it was around $30. After 5 months of light use, it still works fine. I highly recommend it. Theres a stopless speed controller thingy, which is great for finding your niche, and the temperature control has been really useful, as it is in 1 degree increments. There is a problem with the pen where it goes into standby mode if you change the speed away from the fastest, but the company was really gracious informed everyone that it was due to the adapter included and not the pen, and offered a free replacement adapter. There’s a service door, which would be helpful if a) the pen broke and b) I knew anything about mechanics. All the issues I’ve had with 3D printing has either bee due to my lack of skill or to the cheap filament I bought. I hope this helps! Edit: realized this was addressed to OP, not me, but I hope it’s helpful anyway!

I loved the Apple Parody😍 You are truely a little Jobs. I am about to buy a new Prusa Printer and I am not quite shure which printsurface I shall buy. I plan on making such multicolored prints like you did. You used a smooth surface but I guess a textured surface does look nice aswell. What kind of printsurface do you recommend, the smoth PEI sheet or the Powder Coated PEI sheet?🤔

I don't have experience with the Prusa print surfaces, but I'd say go with whichever you like the look of. I should note that people have had trouble doing the multipass technique on prusa printers because of the matrix leveling it runs between prints

There are special filaments that melt in water or some chemical. So if you use it and spray water / chemical or something on the print it will shine like nothing you have seen!

Get a mesh kit and you can polish up to 12000 grit we used them on canopies in the air force. They work amazing!

Any advice on how to achieve a pattern like at 13:16 in Fusion 360? Making a lot of circles and then selecting the spaces in between is quite annoying as I just noticed.

7:24 What if you 3d printed a sorter to separate the beads by those small differences? There exists a subset of the beads you ordered which has better diameter consistency than the entire set together, you can use that subset instead of designing your puzzles with looser tolerances

Yes you can! It can even be done within the slicer using exposed infill for thin .4mm lines. Maybe I'll give it a shot :)
