I just worked otr my first year lived out of the truck had no rent or car payment. Saved all my money and bought a 2022 cascadia from an auction in Florida for 23k cash. No truck payment just insurance. I run mostly reefer contracts from heyl and marten and do very well for myself.

Is that the best option to do? Is to buy a truck out right and just worry about insurance-trailer payment etc?
@thecspot1387
@thecspot1387 2 ай бұрын
@israelh.2259 yes but you need enough to buy the truck and at least 10,000 in savings to start. Then save another 15,000 before you start spending any Capitol you make. This ensures a safety blanket for repairs or any time off you may need for emergencies. Also I don't have trailer payments cause I never bought one and don't plan on it. I can park my tractor in my back yard. Truck parking with a trailer is expensive and a hassle.

The benefits to a lease like lone mountain is the payment is 100% right off. If not lone mountain there are many financial companies that will do it. Its usually much faster and easier than bank financing. For the right off alone I will always keep a payment on something weather a truck or another trailer written up as a lease. At tax time youll be happy

Additionally, Lone Mountain needs for you to have an LLC that is at least 3 months or older. Also, you need to have at least twice the amount of your down payment i.e if your down payment is 4k they need for you to have at least 4k left in your bank account. 👍

I went through Bush Truck Leasing with USA-Truck. I have a 2017 Kenworth T680 that i picked up during Covid 2020. My truck had 364K when i got it with a 4K down payment. Its an ex Werner truck. My weekly payment was $720.26 with $200 maintenance included in the $720.26. The truck still had original factory warranty. It was tough but, its mine now as of October 2023. Ive never had any issues with this truck. I baby my truck and stay on top of all maintenance. I DO NOT IDLE MY TRUCK. Truck came with new virgin tires. New brakes. Ive since replaced all drums and brakes due to them putting new brakes on old drums. It can be done through lease purchase. You must have discipline. Im still here at USA.

But on the flip side there’s money to be made having your own truck. Even with the rates being the lowest they’ve ever been week go out for 21 days then we’re home to do whatever for 8 days and our gross weekly pay is 10k-12k per week. Never became an o/o. Thought about becoming lease op cuz of all the KZbin vids. Now those ppl are realizing they’re screwed. I’m with a company 1099. I stay out a month and get a week off. I make around 7500 -8k a month gross. We go everywhere from cali to Maine and everywhere in between. I’ve always wanted my own truck. My credit is very good and my savings is building up. But I don’t have the repor that these more established companies do. We do a lot of broker loads and they require 2020 or newer equipment? How do guys with older rigs compete? I’m trying to gain as much knowledge I can about becoming an o/o because I’ve been out here 9 years already and want to have a say in where I go. Also my pitbull is getting tired of being on the road for so long 😂

Any owner operators out there saying that they are doing well, are full of shit. I've been an O/O for over 10 years and I parked my new truck and trailer two years ago. Right now is NOT the time to go for it. You're better off working as a driver with a good company. You WILL NOT net $1500 a week as an owner operator. Not right now, not for the last two years. My truck will remain parked until the brokers stop stealing from the trucking companies. I'm spending my time traveling in Mexico. Drive for a good company and you can net at least $2500 a week. Buy a truck right now and your sure to go bankrupt in less than six months.

@@MakeCentsTrucking $2200 a week take home is peanuts. You can make that as a driver without beating the crap out of your truck and without the fuel expenses, insurance, permits, headaches of book keeping, downtime for repairs and maintenance. I have plenty in the bank to enjoy my money. I'm not going to beat the crap out of my truck for peanuts. I'll run it when brokers stop charging 50-75% of the payout. We should be making $5000 a week after expenses, not $2200.

Pros and cons on both sides. Lease do you research on the weekly expenses versus estimated weekly revenue and get a brand new truck under warranty with option to buy at the end. Buy a old truck than you better know how to fix on it and have funds on deck for breakdowns. Possibly your 1st load. It’s a roll of the dice with older trucks and not knowing how well they were maintained.

Too many jump into being an O/O/lease operator because they couldn't figure out how to save a dime as a company driver... they get way over their head and end up bankrupt because they are working for free. Three years as a company driver and save 50% from the start, and I'm extremely cautious about becoming an O/O.

Love your vids but got to disagree. Lone mountain has the same turn over rate as any lease purchase. The payments look good but your not comparing apples to apples. It doesn't include maintenance. Your also way overpaying for a high mileage truck. On a regular lease you can just walk away if it doesn't work out. You're not out a $7000 down payment or depreciation.

Why in the world would anyone want to be a o/o in today’s market and world. You live in a truck and make less money at the end of the year then a good local company job pays. I’m not knocking the folks doing o/o. I have thought of it myself. However the numbers just don’t add up. Trucking has to be the only career that people is happy spending more money than they make. Example a truck makes $250,000 a year expenses $150,000 a year. You walk away with $100,000. Sounds great until you realize you spent 150,000 to make 100,000. I could be wrong, but my math would indicate that’s an upside down business.

Have you ever done it? How long? Was it a lease or did you own it? Just curious because so many have theories with no personal experience them self. I on the other hand have been a OO since 2013 and wouldn’t change a thing. Wish I would have started it sooner 😎

@@MakeCentsTrucking no I have never done it. I have plenty of buddies who are o/o and most of them are never home and the others who are home every day tell me to stay where I’m at and don’t deal with the headache. I’m local home every day off weekends and make more then most of them. I understand that a lot of factors can change the numbers. However all that I talk with the numbers are different but the common factor is that they all spend way more then they make.

I put my down payment on the truck; it did have 50k miles on it but that was it... I took it to the place I had been working and leased it on... My payment was 2650$ a month + the gap insurance you have to have and then the overage(if you have any) that's mileage based and mine was .12¢ per mile over 66000 miles per 6 months... @@ChozenNYC I was making around 5500$ a week gross... My insurance was about 1100$ a month for my cargo and physical; about 650$ a month for my gap(this went up and down for me)... My fuel cost were 1350$ a week or so then... My settlements after fuel, insurance, and percentage owed was usually 3200$ a week... I paid myself about 650$ a week and left the rest... If I didn't have bills that week I might only pay myself half of that... You have to remember to be disciplined even when things are going well... This is the time when you make your most money; taking time off while having large payments for equipment is the equivalent of losses instead of money earnings... Once it's paid for YOU can dictate what YOU want to do and only then...
