And here I am, 4 years later, still rooting for this glorious masked fiend. The fact that the sets and costumes, not to mention the acting, are so perfect that it feels like you can almost smell the Jester. Shabby costume evokes decay, perhaps earthiness, the attire itself is impeccable which makes me think of classic men's cologne, and the overall magician vibe makes me think of the very specific smell of the circus: candy, popcorn, animalic musk and sweat. This character is so vivid and evocative, it's incredible.

I personally love how the jester has a very childlike way of preforming. His over dramatized motions, and the almost golf style of clapping, gives him a more innocent tone. Another reason why i believe he is very childlike is because of his whole motive. He goes against anybody who believes that his card tricks are boring or too simple. It is just like how a child tries to get more attention if he originally did something to gain attention but did not work. I enjoy this character very much.

From the rope snapping thing the Jester was telling him to break up with this girl and forms a new rope telling him to find a better girl. Guy doesn't get it and Jester gets a little frustrated so instead he tells him with more drama and scariness. Love the sequel. It builds on what was great about the first chapter but succeeds in adding a more sinister element to the jester. Only critique though is that I would have liked it to be a little harder to coerce the “Stephanie” character. She does express some interest in the jester in the beginning but then she just seems to stand by awkwardly while he messes with her friend, never making an attempt to stop him or say anything. Otherwise, loved it. And as always, some really interesting shots and scene framing there. Loved the end where the camera zooms in close to the jester’s face and we watch his head dart back and forth only to see the knife fly by as he turns back to his victim. So cool.

Hey, Casey! Thanks for the comment. When we were developing the idea, one challenge a sequel presented was trying to expand upon was the original short introduced while MAINTAINING the mystery of the Jester character. I feel the appeal of the Jester comes from not knowing much about him, and only revealing JUST enough. The basic jumping-off point for this film was the fact that we'd seen someone already not really want to be a part of his performance. What if here, we had the opposite: Someone who wanted to get too involved? How would the Jester react to that? Personally, I'm not really interested in revealing the mechanics or specifics on how the Jester works. I feel like that would deflate the mystery. We just wanted to add JUST enough here and there (Steph actually eats the candy given to her, the return of the silver mask, etc.) to questions for discussion/interpretation. As far as Stephanie's behavior is concerned, clearly she's under some kind of influence, but we didn't want to give too much away as to what was specifically happening, just enough to be uncomfortable. It's a tough balance, but hopefully this gives a little insight into the story, even if we did skimp in a few places. Thanks for following us! I figured Steph was bewitched by the Jester on sight, maybe because her character was more open to the wilder side, where her male friend was more cautious. Jester seems to hone in on people he can either influence easily or who he knows will be difficult and thus easier to snare. I think he likes a challenge (how sociable of him!). He's selective and lets other people off as well. Some folks just catch a lucky break with him, if they show enough enthusiasm for his tricks he's like 'meh, free pass for this guy' but woe betide you if you fail to clap or you stand there looking blank. Lol, he's insane and I love him! :D Is he collecting trainees I wonder? Or an army? If he disappears you, where do you go? I liked that we also saw him blink in this segment, it looked really creepy. As ever great camera work, music and acting was on point. He and Moonlight Man are my favourite internet villains.

Wow...this chapter really holds up on its own. I like that it leaves you with the impression that the poor chump dressed as Waldo suffered a horrible fate at the hands of his presumed love interest, and that on a deeper level, “Steph” essentially emboldened her seducer to perform a much more sinister trick than what was originally in the cards, through her willingness to consent to wickedness for the self-indulgent thrill of it. I half expected the eyeholes in her mask to blacken out after the horrific deed was done, symbolizing that that mask was no longer *just* a mask, but a covering for the void where a hopelessly admired face once was. That would’ve made it all the more compelling for me.

My head canon is that the Jester is the Spirit of Halloween, much the same way that Santa Clause is the Spirit of Christmas. Santa personifies *love* and *generosity* meanwhile the Jester personifies *mischief* and *deception* . This one was funny as hell, I was laughing my ass off the whole time 🤣and that girl Stephanie was mesmerized with the Jester when she could obviously see that he was not all there in the head especially all the stuff that kept happening to her friend/bf.
