In about 1958 my family was watching Make Room For Daddy, Danny Thomas' weekly show in which he runs a nightclub. Three or 4 fellows in fisherman-knit sweaters showed up looking for a gig. Our Scottish-Irish roots became even more firmly embedded when the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, having been denied an opportunity to play inside the club, decided to play outside it ... and attracted a crowd of the patrons who Danny had thought would not be interested. It was a long time ago and I was but 10 years of age, but that seems the gist of it. The next day, Dad headed off to the best record store in town and returned with "Hearty and Hellish" and the Live in Concert albums ... the only ones then available to us, which were played almost to death and fostered a love of Irish folk music that lives on. It is wonderful to see that their music lives on in their families.

This is a great promo video for the MSB's DVD "home Away From Home". The DVD is awesome and a must buy for anyone who enjoys their music. The Speakeasy session at the end of the DVD is terrific and adds a personal touch to the performance. Mickey Spain also wrote the lyrics and music to the title track "Home Away from Home" which was beautiful. A little old with a little new.
