Hi Matt, to do the finishing on the mane, I typically hold the scissors vertical and snip along the ends of the mane to give it a more natural look and so it doesn't look so blunt. As someone else suggested, for length, follow the curve of the neck. Should be a little shorter at the throatlatch. Just some suggestions to try if you so choose. You did a great job on Chase's grooming, all the same.

Matt does not seem to research things like grooming. Mane pulling - tail pulling -- . In 30 yrs of horse work including hunter and jumper and events never in whole time did I clip or cut a mane except for stray hairs outside a braid. Is this a European thing or just Matt doing his own thing??? Reminds of someone cutting hair on a Barbie doll. Geebuz.

@sofiezeilershowjumping5342

Here's a little advice from a showjumper: You can most definitely make his mane shorter and let it follow the shape of his neck more instead of being at angle straight across his neck. The shorter mane (BUT NOT TOO SHORT) will help you if you wanna do the showjumping braids. You kan also cut up and into the mane with very small cuts to make the mane look more natural, good if you don't wanna pull the mane for the same look, as it would get too thin then. Hope you can use it, just things I had to learn the though way over the years. Btw love your channel and good luck with the jumping!

Well Chase is loving the change I reckon. Your eye on for trimming his mane is so good. You two chattering together is so funny. So real nice to see and hear, it's not pre planned or practiced. Love it boys , never change its so refreshing to see. You are lucky Chase's mane is so thick, my boy gets much more thinner lower down. I clip my own horses, but must say a full body clip is so darned boring. So sometimes its much easier to get someone else in to do it and just pay them. Feel lazy but yup its a boring chore. As an Aussie understand banging a tail.

@mircat28
@mircat28 3 жыл бұрын
"The banged tail should end about 4”/10 cm to 5”/12cm below the hocks. Any shorter may detract from the look of the tail. If your horse has a short or skimpy tail, you might want to skip banging it altogether. To get the right length, you can mark the desired cutting line with a little piece of masking tape or a chalk mark before you cut. Better to leave the tail too long, than cut it off too short. The Banging Process To bang your horse’s tail, you'll need: Mane comb Sharp scissors A plastic bottle or cardboard tube about 4 in/10cm in diameter (optional). Or in place of a tube or bottle an assistant who will 'lend an arm' (optional). Your horse should be accustomed to being groomed and handled and be calm when you work around its hindquarters. Follow these instructions to bang your horse's tail: Brush the tail smooth. Don't wet it. Grooming sprays and de-tanglers may make it harder to keep the scissors steady for a straight, clean clip because they make the hair more slippery. Have your assistant place the bottle sideways beneath the base of horse's tail so that it lifts the tail more or less into the position it would be if the horse were moving. If your horse isn’t going to squirm, it might be relaxed enough to hold the bottle in place on its own. Alternatively, you could just hold the tail up with your arm, but this is more work, and you could easily move your arm without realizing it. An assistant can be helpful to either cut or hold the tail up. Grasp the bottom-most portion of the tail and hold it into a tight bundle. Cut straight across the tail hairs. When the tail is dropped (bottle, tube or arm removed) the cut ends of the tail will be at a slight angle to the ground-the front being slightly shorter than the back. The cut will now be square to the ground when the horse is moving. As your horse’s tail grows, the tail will have to be trimmed again. How often will depend on how quickly the hairs grow"

Garden's looking good boys , well done . Had a good laugh , you always bring a smile with that banter and I like your enthusiasm . There's a few horsemastership issues I could point out and I know you trust your horse implicitly . As everyone's an expert I don't want to seem patronising but ... makes me nervous when you put that pretty face directly behind the back legs , I know this horse is your best mate but don't ever take things for granted around horses , I have witnessed terrible accidents . Also I would recommend tying your horse to a loop on that rail , not the rail itself because if the sky fell in and he got a fright he would break the loop and not the rail which could in turn cause some avoidable damage . I have seen these things happen and expect it when you least expect it . It's a bit like defensive driving , where you anticipate, always looking over your shoulder even though you are indicating to avoid possible worst outcomes . I'm not a doomsdayer but you might relax around the wrong horse because you trust too much . My friend survived a point blank kick to the face but was blinded and lost her nose and that would not be a good look on the catwalk . I hope you don't mind me pointing out these observations , not a criticism just advice . Horses are powerful creatures and one slip is all it takes . I think because you have such a huge following you need to set the best example and you do a great job but stay aware and don't let your guard down when it comes to safety and don't take things for granted , I have learnt this from several near death experiences that still flashback and run my blood cold 😶

This is hilarious! I had no idea that horses should look different in the show jumping ring and the the dressage ring, goodness, how the other half live! I just trim the tail when it gets too long!

Bonito lugar, que maravilla, os envidio, la verdad, gracias por estos vídeos. Es un lugar para hacer una película, la verdad, con Matt y Drent como protagonistas, el lugar es perfecto. Saludos desde Jerez capital del caballo!

You did an amazing job on Chase. He is so stunning! I would worry that Chase's tail being so heavy, might cause a rail to go down but if he gets it out of the way himself ...as some do.
