Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series: BRT-01 & BRT-02 are here! Each release focuses on the different attributes that the barrel sets from aging in a certain part of the warehouse. The 01 focuses on the top of the warehouse where the barrels spend the first 3 years of their life, while the 02 focuses on the last 3 or 4 years of the barrel finishing at the bottom of the warehouse.

Me too. I remember Fred minnick saying that if makers released old stuff (10 years +) as opposed to being mostly focused on mass production, it would compete with pappy. I guess he’s had some super old makers and it was insane

I went to Loretto last month to get my Ambassador's bottle, and also picked up a bottle of the Community Blend that they have at the distillery. Highly recommended, if you get a chance to go by there.

Great review, as always! I'm loving how different these two options are. I prefer BRT-02 but BRT-01 is still phenomenal. BRT-01 drinks like it's 10+ years aged.

Been looking around and asking about these for the last month or so with no luck. Finally found the pair yesterday for $60 each and grabbed them. Will be putting them to the test soon to see how they compare to both your sampling notes and to the offerings from last year which were superb.

I tried my first private select yesterday and I was more pleasantly surprised by Cask Strength when I first had it a while back...So after trying the Private Select I took a sip out of the flak of the Cask Strength I could tell the P.S. was fuller and creamier but on its own the Cask Strength as an affordable daily it is really good and has like a middle note that grabs you or some sort of bite multi- layered...I prefer the Cask Strength as a practical drink...These special makers series if I'm at a bar and they have it just to try....Not going to buy any past my budget

I love all things Makers wood-finished, FAE01 is still king tho. Either way, you having BRT02 on our left, and 01 on our right, is REALLY messing with me keeping track of which is which in the video. ;)

I also do not get peanut butter, or a nuttyness, but definitely chocolate for sure. More char than oak, for sure, charred marshmello. More like s'mores than pb cups. Couldn't find the BRT 1 tho. Maybe someday I'll get a sample to compare.

Perhaps in the future you can explain the purpose/benefits of wood aging the bourbon. Do they just throw in some barrel staves b4 bottling or is there a specific process that achieves a specific outcome?

Had brt2 for two weeks just tried brt1 , the brt 1 is richer the brt2 is sweeter , I prefer hotter richer as too sweet , so brt 1 wins .
