If Vincent could see this video... what would he think? At least he would know how appreciated and beloved his art is!?I wish he could have known this during his lifetime.

I don't think Starry Night was intended to have exposed unpainted edges, but that Van Gogh didn't want any of the picture to be hidden behind the frame. In fact it's possible the canvas was framed (In a different frame) before he started painting.

Divertedflight I think they meant how the whole canvas wasn’t fully painted like how there is no paint between brushstrokes ( but idk you may be right)

I have thought that the frames back then had a "deeper" edge to their frame then we have today. If that makes since! I have always wondered that exact thing....great catch on your part! Vincent's painting Irises - his first painting done at the at St. Remy and hangs at the Getty does the same thing!

I love seeing the edge of the canvas where it meets the van gogh's brush strokes. seeing that would make me kind of star struck. the very human element of a master piece.

Nearly all museums do it. As an artist, I am really amazed that paintings are hung with a nice thick shadow on the tops from the frames. Why?

The MoMA in New York City is amazing I highly suggest hanging out in the Picasso gardens. Much like the MET, Guggenheim, The cloister and MAD museum around Columbus circle. The MoMA out of all the museums made me feel the most welcome. I felt like I was at home.

Can someone comment if that is a Jute or Linen canvas? I've never used either so I'm a bit ignorant on this. The canvas seems to be so coarse compared to the cotton canvas I use.

WOW! is that the actual painting, i think i would have cold sweats being that close and actually handling it. it is an icon that transcends just art. its sort of unfair to the rest of the art in the video to have to follow the headliner.

Is this the original painting "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh? Personally I think that art conservation is great, but I don't think that such a painting should be worth so many millions. In the end it's just a painting that van Gogh painted at a moment in time. When I see how they are worried because of two little cracks that have been there for a long time, and that they want to check it under the microscope, that's when I think it's exaggerated. In the end it's just a painting. There are living artists out there that make better paintings today and they have trouble to sell their paintings. The art world is totally crazy. When I see that this action painting by Pollock is worth many millions, then I don't understand it. It's just color action dripped over a ground. Everybody can do that.

Old varnish on paintings turns into a dark yellow and brown, making the artwork difficult to see, and colors monochromatic. Untreated cracks and tears in the paint and canvas speeds deterioration of the artwork. Paintings should be in the contrition artists intended them to be.
@oocereal
@oocereal 5 жыл бұрын
some believe art should be viewed the way the artist intended it to be viewed. cracks and missing paint may also distract from the image as a whole, depending on how poorly the painting has aged

Seriously? Starry Night going up against great artists making a 5 gallon water bottle with a badminton racket stuck in it? Starry night competing with two mixing bowls and an automotive oil funnel? Starry night competing with an old rusty milk vessel or welding mask or PVC pipes with a plunger sticking out? Come on! How is Starry night to compete with such great art?

Uhhh that is not okay to be doing touch ups on a painting with a bare hand. Even if they’re sparkling clean. Do what painters actually do and get a stick to rest your hand on to not end up on the painting.
