The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting. The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad. Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.

Either video would have been great, as Sabaton really puts out such quality videos. 👍

the music video is much better than the animated story video.

Originally, I believe the ceasefire had been requested so that each side could go out on the battlefield and retrieve their dead and wounded.

That's my only point of criticism with this video. I can understand you can't put all the information in the official music video, but helping each other retrieve and bury their fallen soldiers is a very important part of the Christmas Truce. It's a shame that part is left behind. But other than that, I think this is one of the most important pieces of music to have come out this year and it needs to reach more people.

One thing that isn't told, us that after the truce, the Generals On both sides moved the soliders around. In fear that the soliders wouldn't fire on their new found friends...

They were about 30 yards/27 meters apart.

The soldiers didn't have enemies, they were put there with a gun in their hands and told, that's the enemy. This wasn't their fight, it was their governments. It wasn't like WWII, when there was a clear evil, threatening all. And how much I like this story, the humanity under horrific circumstances, I think it's the worst thing that could have happened to them. Usually the only way a regular person can kill is if he's convinced himself the cause is just. But getting to know the other side and liking them, what does that make them? A hero kills their enemy, but only a monster would kill his friends. I wonder how many wished they never celebrated the truce.
