Creative idea! A lazier solution is to just mount a 70"+ modern flat screen like normal and play a scene with a digital window frame like you can find on youtube. Just requires a youtube premium subscription to avoid ad interruption. Not as portable but i can't imagine moving that huge thing instead of just adding more single TV's to other rooms anyway.

Maybe I'll see if some handyman wants to take it on for me. thanks for the idea! btw, I'm sure you caught it on post edit but at 3:58 "it's heavy as AF" is "it's heavy as as F" double as.. maybe heave ass F? :)

All I could think, besides this is cool, I would have added a strip (to the wall) under the piece bolted to the TV's. That's where all the weight is. The French cleat will hold it to the wall and share the load with the additional block, but it would take a lot of load off the frame. Just a thought. Also, maybe a face frame, instead of the edge banding, to make it look like window casing? Just another thought. And what happened to your table saw, bro? I swear I could see it under the track saw? Great stuff, as always.

When he said 'baltic birch' I thought, "Oh man here we go. What's next? The gold chains and Rolex?" Go back to that scene in Pulp Fiction when The Wolfe asks Jimmy "If he's an 'oak man'" when offering to buy him a new bedroom set. If I were Jimmy, I would have said, "I'm more of a 13-ply guy." I bet The Wolfe would have told him to not get too carried away with his generosity.

What kind of video sources out there? I saw a fake window that had really cool places around the world that they did a high definition video for, but they never got back to me and their minimum window is $7000 and then subscription. I’m thinking I might just do like a G3 OLED so is there a subscription that could get somewhere, or some paris action or forest or what have you? I moved back into my mobile home that I’ve allowed my son to move into a few years ago and so we’re gonna live here together after the separation room so it would be nice to have a wall of the world make me feel like I’m a lil less in a tin can. At least the place is paid for so that’s doing better than the $400,000 house which the mortgage was about to balloon welcome to Canada.

I could not understand why you were worried about the weight of the combined tv's. After all, you had dangerous Dan there to lift them! He's always got your back and we all know how buff he is. I didn't know that he has to hide his face. Is he in the witness protection program? Is he one of the aliens who have recovered from UFO's in the recent past? Does he have three eyes as result of being raised in Russia near Chernobyl? Will we see Dan on TMZ this week? (BTW: I enjoyed watching this build. Thanks for sharing it.)

The only thing I’d do differently than Daniel is to make the frame look more like a real window. I’d face frame over the bezels to look like grilles and add a sill. If you’re worried about the face frame interfering with the receiver for the remote, I’m sure someone out there makes an external receiver…though I’ll admit to not researching that.

Yhea honestly I'd want to get 3 that had skinnier bezels as well so the gap between wasn't as bad. It'd make it far more useful but again cost.... I'd also probably go for computer fans and control of the system as most people already have a computer and buying specific controller to do the job seems unnecessary. Also give you a huge computer screen to use.

As an AV industry vet, I’d point out that, technically, you should buy TVs that specifically state they’re designed to be hung in portrait orientation. If not, they’re much more prone to overheat and you’re voiding the warranty. But that would probably at least triple the cost of your project. Awesome build!
@AnthonyLoPrimo
@AnthonyLoPrimo Жыл бұрын
Wait.. can you elaborate? Why would orientation change the fan? Just from rising heat?
@madt0wn1
@madt0wn1 Жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyLoPrimo Correct. A lot of the cooling is passive, designed for the heat to rise away in a certain direction. When you turn the display, it may cause heat to dump right into sensitive components and shorten their lifespan. It was way more of an issue on older sets, but it can still cause issues.

I love the workmanship. Great job. I've been experimenting with making a 1:3 portrait video wall for about a year now. I'm surprised that a 4k video stretched across what is now about a 110 inch display looks good enough from a few feet away. My most recent experiment was with a matrox quadHead2Go box and a single portrait tv to see what it would look like with 3. I was not happy at close range so I abandoned that and am now working with 3 32" displays. But if you are happy with it I may rethink my project

Hi, it's true that it's visually appealing, but given the power consumption of just one of these TVs, I can't imagine the monthly cost of running these 3 TVs together. It's a nice idea, but at a time when everyone's trying to save energy, this kind of setup would be a waste of money. For a KZbin channel, why not, but for a home, certainly not.
