I sell dozens of these. Mine have cut outs for soda cans or cups a 9x13 flat area in case you want to do homework or write notes. A rectangular cut out to place remotes, glasses or snacks. Keep it handy by the couch, no spills.

Great vid! I’d add one tip: when you were rounding the edges of the desk organizer on the router table, it helps to do two things to prevent blow-out on the end grain. 1) route the ends first, so if there’s a little bit of blow-out, you cut it out when routing the sides 2) use a follow board to reduce blow-out.

Rockler makes a great dust port attachment for all tools. Look into it because it will cut the mess and dust down significantly

Just noticed something. With that large acrylic foot you used you might have been able to make an attachment for your dust collector. Sucking the chips right out of the bowl before they go spraying everywhere

@@MakeSomething Make the hole double the size of your largest bit, which is likely this one. Build a 'hood' for the side away from you to attach the vacuum, so you can see, and so it pulls chips away from you. For extra super bonus points, add a light that spotlights your work area so you can see your cut better since you just blocked half of your light with the hood.

You didn't call attention to it, but I like the idea of keeping the octagonal bowls connected together while you route them. It is more secure that way. Chuck, I enjoyed the animal sound effects. You might want to add a screaming goat to your collection (too many Grinch commercials) or the Wilhelm scream (possibly when something falls to the floor). Let's just have some fun.

Personally, the very entertaining "Baaaaahhhhh" sounds are much preferable to the sound of a router. I think this should be incorporated from now on in your videos. You could mix it up a little as well. Maybe a cow mooooooh for a miter cut. Seriously. Entertainment meets woodworking education. Excellent!

i buy old plastic trays if suitable and serving dishes from op shops and use them as templates then when done toss the plastic trays in the trash , i put a sheet of 6mm perspex on the serving dish/tray and hold it there with double sided tape i then drill a hole through the perspex then run a small trim bit and smallest bush in the router and cut out the the hollows in the plastic serving dishs and end up with a template much like the one you made from wood i have i think about 15 templates ive made so far . one is like a huge Peace sign , i also have a 6mm thick big base on my router so it does not dip when going over the template . one template i cut by hand was the shape of a dog paw its about a foot x foot in size and i then routed it out of sheets of ply wood the lines look good and if marine ply its good quality reason i use perspex for templates is i got about 50 pieces free and i can see through them and if i need to move template to miss a knot i can , then i screw the template down in to countersunk holes so base plate can slide over it smoothly , and rout away ... by the way liking you channel lots keep up with the great projects

I made a dish like your first one recently, and I think that cutting and gluing multiple pieces of wood together to make a solid blank is a better solution than mine. I used a single piece of wood and it cupped a little bit after I removed a lot of material from the top. With your technique, the grain orientation of the different pieces of wood might prevent that :)
