I designed the USS Enterprise you used in this video and I wanted to thank you for including it. It was my first more complicated design and seeing people understand my instructions and successfully assemble it is a treat.

When cutting out the drink caddy it would be most efficient to make the circles into coasters. Like cutting/etching designs into them before they are cut out

I need to make a metal figure of 30 to 35 pieces, we are going to use a CNC PLASMA SIP 1530 HP. Do you have any projects that you have done with their plans by chance?
@MakeTechCreate11 ай бұрын
Sorry, I've never used a CNC Plasma, so I don't know what projects would work for them.

Nice work. Would love to see some 1/4" cuts in real time to get a sense of the speed your machine is running. Also, I see no smoke? No mask on your wood? Amazed how clean of cuts you are getting. I wonder if I should get a more powerful air assist.
@MakeTechCreate5 жыл бұрын
The bigger 1/4" cuts took about 40-45 mins on my 50 watt CO2. There is smoke, it just doesn't show up much on video. The clean cuts are because I upgraded the air pump to California Air Tools CAT-1P1060S compressor and I get MUCH cleaner cuts now. You can also try upgrading to a larger, higher output fish tank air pump for cleaner cuts.
@MakersGottaEat5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the info. Definitely going to upgrade my air system.

How much of an offset do you use for interlocking interlocking pieces? Also, is there a way to prevent the pieces from falling through the board after they have been cut? Like is it possible to make so the receiver of the pieces can pop it out when they begin the project?
@MakeTechCreate Жыл бұрын
The offset "KERF" is dependent on the lens I have installed and materials. You really need to test it out on your particular machine and setup. You can add what are known as "tabs" in Lightburn to keep the pieces from falling out.

@BaronvonBavert5 жыл бұрын
I don't think it works for K40 ???
@MakeTechCreate5 жыл бұрын
I would go with at least a 50 watt laser. If you're doing a lot of 1/4", a 60 watt or better would be my choice. Thanks for watching, Colin.
@MakeTechCreate5 жыл бұрын
A K40 "should" be able todo it, but it will struggle. My 50 watt doesn't like 1/4" very much. Thanks for watching!

How long does it take to cut these items and how large are the blank pieces of wood? Thanks!
@MakeTechCreate5 жыл бұрын
The biggest pieces of plywood are about 450mm x 400mm. The smaller projects on 1/8" plywood take about 10 mins, while the large projects on 1/4" plywood take about 40 minutes. This is using a 50 watt CO2 laser. Thanks for watching!

How do you verify your cut files are scaled properly for material thickness? everytime i have tried those files off thingiverse they seem to be sloppy fit.
@MakeTechCreate4 жыл бұрын
What I do is select 2 small pieces of the projects that fit together. I then cut only those 2 pieces and keep scaling them until I get a snug fit. I'll then scale the rest of the project the same amount. Hope that helps.

Do you think I can cut these projects with a 5500 mw laser (incrementing the number of passes ..) ?
@MakeTechCreate5 жыл бұрын
I can cut 1/8" plywood with my 2.5 watt, so you shouldn't have any issues with your 5.5 watt laser, it may take you a while, though. The 1/4" plywood projects will probably be a different story. I know I can't cut it with my 2.5 watt diode and even my 50 watt CO2 Laser struggles with it. Thanks for watching!
