your first hack is something I have done for decades. Now I'm 55 in progressive glasses and hooded eyes, and I use a nice champagne or a shade deeper, and just finger swipe it on the lid. Like you said, it gives me some light and brightness behind my glasses and a pop of color. It's amazing trick.
