@@honorsilverthorne7227 defending? Is it his fault that science didn't know what we know now? He believed what he knew. He thought it was her fault since he had a boy with Bessie Blount and he died with a legitimate son from Jane Seymour who became king. So what about that should we shame him for? It's cool to shame people that literally couldn't know a difference because that was the science back in the day? He shouldn't have done that to Catherine, but he needed a son. And his transfer to power was the 1st peaceful one in like 100 years, and his dad barely had the right to the throne, and the one time a woman was left as heir the country went into civil war. In his eyes it wasn't possible for Mary to rule, not that she couldn't but because the country wouldn't do it and his dynasty would be over. We know now that Queen Elizabeth II is a descendant of the tudors, and I think Henry would love how strong his daughters and sister's daughters and issue were and how cool it is that they made it to present. It's not right that women were treated that way, but it's what they thought was true, by science, not just a mean untrue opinion.

Oh! You left out why he felt like it was a sign of “god’s displeasure” that he and Catherine couldn’t have a son. He wasn’t originally supposed to be king, his older brother was, and his older brother was supposed to marry Catherine, but when his older brother died they just passed the throne and Catherine along to Henry, and he thought that since she wasn’t supposed to be his wife that it was affecting their fertility. Most likely, though, years of inbreeding led to defective swimmers.
@poisonmantis41913 жыл бұрын
it was also her devotion to spain and the papacy! it's mostly believed that "brother's wife" thing was just his reasoning he used to hide how much he hated her loyalty to spain, considering spain and england were not really getting along at the time. he wanted her to be loyal to england, and england alone, so when she wasn't he wasn't too pleased

So no females aren’t a sign of defective swimmers, in fact it seems the only healthy swimmers he did have were X chromosomes, but the lack of ability for his many many wives to have healthy children is because his swimmers were defective.

The tudors is honestly my favourite era of british history to learn about. Some fun facts about them in general: Anne Boleyn basically caused the reformation and creation of the Church of England Elizabeth was actually seen as illegitimate as well when she became queen-- but she proved everyone wrong Henry VIII actually had a son who became king as soon as he died but this son was ill and had died at a young age (If I remember correctly I think it was 15). Both Mary I and Mary queen of Scots (who was actually her cousin) were Catholics who were involved in trying to bring Catholicism back to England. Though Mary queen of scots was most active during Elizabeth's reign. Catherine of Aragon had 6 children but all except one had died. That one was Mary. There's this thing we learned in primary school about the wives of Henry VIII. Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived. Yeah a bit brutal for a 7 year old to learn but we did, or at least I did.

She's great, but (here I go with my Tudor history buffin' self) she confused Mary I with Mary Tudor, her aunt. Mary I was never married to the King of Portugal, that was her youngest aunt Mary Tudor. Aunt Mary was married for a cpl months to the older King, he died supposedly " from overexertion in the marriage bed" 😳 She had made Henry give his blessing that if her hubs died she can chose her next hubs. She married one if his closest friend's Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. Mary I married Prince Phillip, son of the Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor.

I always admire your looks (especially eye makeup)...but your story telling is so mesmerizing that I forgets to mention. Your eye makeup is looking amazing. This glitter is giving me life.
