Hello Nneka. Thanks for the video. However I am not sure you are entirely correct about the information you dished out. Can you research about BRIDGING OPEN WORK PERMIT and tell me what you found out? There's actually no need for anyone to panic. You can get one year pgwp and apply for BOWP four months before it expires. The IRCC will still give you up to 18 months. The condition is that you must have applied for PR and you are awaiting their decision

Definitely. BOWP only works if you are eligible to apply for PR and you have already started your process. If you don’t meet the eligibility for permanent residence application, you can’t apply for a BOWP. I hope this makes sense. But I’m open to hearing about your experience with this, so i can pin your comment. I’m sure it might help someone out there!

@@nnekaezeanya. if you are applying through the CEC or through the PNP after your study, you must definitely meet up with the CRS score. I actually had to call your attention because you made it seem like once you exhaust your one year pgwp, then all hope is lost. What I will advise everyone is just to ensure you finish your academic program and then get the one year pgwp and start your PR process from there. If you run out of time, then apply to extend your open work permit through BOWP

Not just Canada. It's like that in western countries. I think income is the major point out of all the points you mentioned. Schools have no say on PGWP as it’s a territorial rule. I think when they say “you can work” it means for the co-op session of your program and that’s it. That doesn’t give you the 1 or 3 years PGWP depending on what you are eligible for. My advice, ditch the school or change the program to be safe.

If you’d like to take a different program in the same school that would make you eligible for the PGWP, you can just use the same offer letter but also request for a seat to be reserved for you in your desired program. I think that would be the smartest move. But there is also a huge possibility that your visa is being denied because your current school might not be under the DLI list. Hello I just got admitted for a college diploma of 2years but I was advised by a friend not to accept it because I already have my BA degree here in Nigeria and going a college degree will be like a downgrade also, it can be a criteria for visa refusal because it doesn’t really make any sense to want to do a college degree program when I have my BA degree, instead, I should go for a postgraduate diploma, I have been searching and I discovered postgraduate diplomas are just for 1year which is not advisable because I would like to do a 2years program so as to get a 3years pgwp…..my question is, can I rely 100% on taking another 1year program when I’m done with the initial 1year postgraduate program? Or better still proceed to do my masters? Cos I was also told that because I did 1year program does not guarantee that I will get admitted into another program. Also, what other programs can I do after a 1year postgraduate program that will make me qualify for a 3years pgwp. I have a query regarding expiry date of my study permit.. would really appreciate if u can provide ur input.. I applied for JAN 2021 intake and my visa got approved. I don’t think this is an issue My advice: Apply for a study permit extension 2/3months before your current study permit expires but make sure you attach the admission letter for your next program (that’s if you take another) when applying. It will be extended to the completion date of your next program (+ an extra 3months)
